JACON Get Together

This forum is for the announcement and discussion of anime conventions, and for the exchanging of rides to, and rooms at, conventions.

I could do lunch. I would need a ride from the Con, though. Hopefully, some of you have enough trunk space for me to fit into. :D

If the Con starts at 5:00, we should meet up at a certain part of the building at 3:45 or 4:00 and then leave to get lunch. That way, we'll have time to eat and return without missing anything.

Hmmm. Last year registration opened Friday morning, granted there was not much structured activity happening, but it was the perfect time to meet and talk with everyone...

Registration begins at 10:30 AM on Friday according to the web site. I think a 4:00 lunch may be a bit late since eatting and socializing takes time. I'm also doubtful at whether we will have enough cars for everyone but it appears there is sufficent food sources within walking distance. We will be at a university campus after all.

How about getting together sometime after registration starts but before the afternoon really kicks in? I'm sure not everyone will be in the area by late Friday morning but I think the majority will be around and registration, as Vlad suggested, seems like logical meeting place whether creators are reading this post or just happen upon us.

So, I guess the big question is how early are y'all going to wake up on Friday? :D

Well I should be there by 10:30 am... Not sure if I can drag Ian out as well since he's flying in from England and may have jet lag... But then again I will have a rented car so he I might be able to drag him out early :P

We'll also be in in Thursday night. Our flights arrive at the exact same time so we're both driving to the hotel together. Good think since I'll need a navigator to make sure we make it!

...ack...

I'm getting all nervous just thinking about this. This will be my first Con and I'll get to meet you all, up close and personal. This should be interesting. :D

Nothing interesting about it! We make music videos and therefore have no lives! :P

Good point, Vlad :D

I did the first time thing at AWA last year at the AMV dinner before the con. Everyone was really cool and friendly. You could tell who was friends before hand but everyone welcomed some new friends as well. The nice thing about going to the early dinner was I met a good number of the creators at the con so when I ran into them Friday-Sunday I felt comfortable enough to hang out and talk to everyone.

We have our own setup... Quu is there as moral support more than anything else. Though I do say the JACON set-up is a near carbon copy of the set-ups used since AWA6.

Red Wolf wrote:I didn't care too much for the new material only contest rule either, especially since I make AMVs to make them and turn them into contests I'll be attending for the extra fun of it. But it isn't like I have a load of good AMVs under my belt anyway so no big loss for me.

Well when the people who view the contests complain about seeing the same videos at MegaCon, FitCon, AFO, AWA... decided to take a stand to make sure it didnt happen.

I'll be flying in at around 11 p.m. I believe RedWolf is picking put Tim and I at the airport (since he gets in around then). IIRC you and him are rooming together so hopefully I'll get to meet you then. If not, I'm sure we'll see each other Friday Morning and probably the remainder of the con (since I hear it's small and well...I don't know anyone and will probably latch on to someone j/k).

I didn't submit anything to JACON since it premiered just a few days ago at ACen, but...since there is a "VAT-like" room, will I be able to give you a CD of some of my AMVs to show? If Quu's computer is there, they're already on it. If not, no big deal.

Ah I missed this post earlier :)

I generally dont need much sleep. There was only one night at awa where I think I'd slept in - and that was until 11:00 I think.

I can't be sure as to how long I can stay awake, but I can function pretty well on 3/4 hours sleep.

So I'm good for friday morning.

good idea...
If this works, I'd be able to let you people see my one-and-only (for now) AMV. I'm glad you thought of this, dwchang.

(P.S. - The AMV might be really crappy to you all since it was my first real project. I didn't slack off making it, though. It took me over a month to complete.)

Not to sound like a total retard (since I've never gone to JACON), but how is this all gonna work out? I imagine it'd be fairly easy to find people since the con is small, but at the same time...is there some designated spot to meet at and a time?

Also...what were the plans? No offense to the con itself, but I'd imagine there isn't that much to do and the entire thing will be just hanging out. Did I just answer my own question? :)

Again sorry for the ignorance, but I just figured out I was going last night and haven't kept up on things. It's those damn Canucks who are making me go :-P.

Does the registration area sound like a good area to meet? If so, we'll only have to worry about what time to meet.

Time to make things "official" (and yes I'm using that term lightly).

Anyone who is interested let's meet at the registration room (or outside of it, however things are arranged) at 11:30 Friday morning.

Registration starts at 10:30 so that should give everyone time to get registered and gather around. Once we reach critical mass we can go find some food. I'm sure we'll all be hanging out in one manner or another throughout the con but this will give us creators a chance to get together so we can meet people we haven't met before and say hi the ones we do know. Nothing formal, we'll just play it by ear and go from there.
