An idea on increasing bandwith usage

Postby Lyrs » Mon Apr 28, 2003 6:20 pm

Hey,

I was thinking, Phade, if the site needs to use more bandwith, why make the avatar file size bigger? Since storage isn't a problem and 10kb isn't all that big, the extra size won't impact bandwith a lot, it'll take away a small part that isn't used int eh first place anyway.

And it'll make us, the members, a tad more happy to know that we can create more comple avatars without horrible image quality. Afterall, 6kbs might look fine as a still image, but when you introduce a little fading or lighting or anyother affects, the size increases substantially and the only way to fit it into a 6kb box is to turn the quality way down, which doesn't plz the eye all that well.

That's my suggestion.

that will just make the whole site run slower. I don't want to have to wait for huge avatars to dl.

not everyone is blessed with broadband.....even 3 k extra times like 20 of them is an additional 60k. Muliply that for evey page he wants to view on the forum. Suddenly it take a lot longer to see what you want to. For a modem user, any extra is too much.
