Smart Buying

Postby Chaos Angel » Sat Apr 26, 2003 8:11 pm

Ok. I now have all three of the Miyazaki films released domestically last week (Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Castle in the Sky). Having purchased all of them now, I wish to impart what I have learned to those who may follow me. So, if you have not yet purchased any of them, or if you only got one, heed my words.

First, shop around. I got mine for $18.86 at a local Wal-Mart, saved a buck or so compared to Best Buy's $19.99. All three films should be the same price-ish. Now, do this. Buy just one, NOT all three at the same time. You'll be screwing yourself over if you do that. Buy one, go home, and open it. There's a coupon inside each one for $2 off of either CitS, KDS, SA, or Princess Mononoke (if you do not have Mononoke, get it last, because I don't know if it has this coupon). After opening it, go back and get one of the others with the coupon. The use the coupon from that one to get the final film. If you don't yet have Princess Mononoke, use the coupon from the third one to get a discount off of it (turning it down from $22.99 to $20.99. Mononoke is more expensive because it's been out longer and is beyond the first month. Most DVDs are cheaper in the first month, for some reason. I got Hellsing 1 for $19.99 at Best Buy when it first came out, now it's $22.99.)

So, yeah. Get them one at a time and you can use the coupon to save money. Smart, neh?

Though if you didn't have any of those, you could have bought the 3 Miyazaki one's and gotten Mononoke for free @ Bext Buy....last week.

Still, excellent point for anyone who hasn't bought the DVD's yet.

Suncoast? You poor bastard, Suncoast is horribly over-priced. They're literally $10 cheaper at Best Buy or Wal-Mart, and Best Buy had that same deal going for the first week.

I never buy at Suncoast. Too over-priced. If it ain't Best Buy or Walmart, it's Bestprices.com fer me.

Suncoast only seems overpriced - they're actually charging MSRP, aka what you'll pay for the disc unless you get it from a discounter (most online stores, best buy, wal-mart, etc). Even Tower Records charges MSRP (and sometimes more) for DVDs, so caveat emptor - shop around.

As for me, I bought Kiki's on Amazon because a friend sent me a Share The Love, so I got it for 20.99, added in my second DVD for April, and got free shipping for it (yay) as well as a $5 off $35 coupon.

Heh You be mistaken. Best buys may have some things cheaper but not all. Sun Coast has a bigger selection of Anime Than my Local Best Buys. Wal-Mart... Don't even get me started on Wal-Mart, you are lucky if you find main-stream (dbz yu-gi-oh ect...) at my local wal-mart.

Sun Coast on the other hand... I pay 5 (that right just 5) Dollars more if that those places. Their selection is HUGE, and I got a replay card (I've already made back 35 dollars) so it's worth it to me because I don't have a Credit Card so I can't order them online. :-/
