Did anyone else attened Anime Boston 2003???!!

Postby HolyVampire32 » Wed Apr 23, 2003 9:35 am

What’s up all,

Shit...it’s been a long time since I last put up a post...and for good reason to. So I was wondering if anyone else attended Anime Boston 2003?? Or any other anime convention? If so give me some details I going through
PCD (Post-con-depression) and I just want to hear if anyone else went to any other convention. So if your interested you can read my journal entry below to get some of the details of Anime Boston 2003...If I sound a little too excited, sorry, this was my first con and I'm still excited about everything that happened...well have fun

Dear Journal,

HOLY SHIT!!! THAT KICKED ASS!!! This has been a KICK ASS way of starting off spring break. This easer week-end I was able to attend Anime Boston 2003 (I suggest that everyone who loves anime check this place out) I heard that the staff of Anime Boston expected about 600-700 people to out but instead about 4,000 PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!!! HOT DAMN!!!! It was great, now journal I know that it may seem like I'm just raving and raving about this convention but this was my first convention and I LOVED IT!!! And for once I can let "the others" see what I'm typing and be able to give you full details. Anime Boston was a 3 day convention over Easter week-end; it was filled with tons of stuff to do. There were plenty of panels where a newbie could start to learn about the world of anime, or how to go about making your own anime web page, or anime music video. There was the gaming basement where we could play some of the hottest games like Soul Caliber 2, Halo, Dance Dance Revolution 6th Mix (Japanese version), Super Smash Brothers and other classic systems like Super SNES, Genesis, and I think there was an Atari in one corner of the room. There were also tons of people cosplaying (for people who don't know cosplaying is when you dress up like your favorite character) I say everything from Guts from Berserk to Ulala from Space Channel 5 (And I got a shot of her ^_^) Also there was an AMV contest and they ranged from newbie’s making a good effort to make an AMV in the Newbie’s Division to the Master's division where I saw some KICK ASS AMVS!!! Also I got to check out some new anime’s on the market like FLCL, DNA^2, Onegai Teacher (A.k.a Please Teacher) Blue Gender and some others. And I also found out the Bandai has just gotten licensing rights to Witch Hunter Robin!!!!!!!!!!!! It kicked ass so I suggest if you have the cash and the willingness to fly over here or if you live close to Boston stop come to Anime Boston 2004 it will be held April 9-11 but keep going to the web site for updates to the events, guests and the schedule:

http://www.animeboston.com

P.S. The site may not be updated yet because the convention just ended a few days ago but there will be details as time goes on, and if you have the time you can even volunteer and possibly get some sweet stuff too!!!

Glad to hear (as one of the tech staff at the con) that you had a good time. There's actually been a bit of discussion about the con and the contest down in the "Anime Conventions" forum. There were actually a decent number of us there, adding to the record attendance. :)

Hey thanks and...

Postby HolyVampire32 » Thu Apr 24, 2003 1:41 pm

Hey thanks Ashyukun,

At first I thought I was just going to be talking to myself :D but anyway I have a question I was just wondering did you go to the adv panel? And if so did they say anything about Neon Genesis Evangelion: Second Coming? I completely forgot about the ADV Panel because I was in the Bandai panel They got the licensing rights to Witch Hunter Robin that's sweet!!! And so far I haven't heard anything on that so if you can tell me any and everything that happened at the ADV panel that would be great. And I'd like to thank you and all who worked at the con to make it as big as it was!

P.S. If you can tell me anything about anime Boston 2004 (like events or better yet any possibilities for employment, I'm signing up to be a volunteer, that would be cool. If you can't I understand and thanks anyway)

Thanks a lot,

I believe in one of the run-downs in the other forums some stuff about the ADV panel was mentioned. It directly followed my panel (in the same room), and I had other things to do....

As for working next year, I'm sure there will be information on it up eventually. I would guess that Patrick and the rest of the crew have been recovering from last weekend most of this week and won't get anything up on next year for a little while yet.

Did anyone who went to the con know someone by the name of Chris Money?

He's a good friend of mine. He didn't tell me what costume he wore, but he mentioned the con to me.

nope, it doesn't ring a bell, sorry try asking Ashyukun, maybe he saw him. The Masquerade at the time (to the best of my knowledge) was only open to cosplayers, maybe he saw him becuause he worked with the staff at the Masquerade, but other then that, nope I can't help ya there.

i was there! ^_^

Postby hikari-sama » Mon Apr 28, 2003 1:54 am

it was a lot of fun, much larger than i was expecting for a first year con. heh, and it was a great excuse to get back to boston. the best part? hm...i think i must say i enjoyed the mishaps at the masquerade, tho i do wish they hadn't been quite so delayed... O_o whoa...that rhymed... i also thought they had some pretty good stuff in the vid rooms, spring and chaos was a good...break from reality... and definitely hearing about WHR being licensed. woohoo! here's to having a bigger dealer's room next year, i'm totally going back!

nee, nee, and did anybody here attend the anime idol contest? i was the silly redhead who won second place! ^_^

and how many of you will be at otakon 2003?? ::pumps fists in the air::

Hmmm. Oddly enough, my favorite part wasn't supposed to happen- due to a planning mistake, one of the DVDs being shown was pulled several hours before the room was supposed to close- and I volunteered to fill up the extra time showing some of the AMVs I had on my hard drive. By the time I had to shut the room down so everything could be packed up, the room was pretty much packed, even though when the DVD had been stopped, there were only 2 or 3 people in the room. :D

Masquerades are always a lot of fun. Even if you're working tech on them and not just watching. I saw the first half of the Anime Idol competition (I was helping run the sound board), but not the end. Congrats! I also really liked the Whose Line Is It Anyways Anime. The VA's had entirely too much fun with a few of those games (especially the dating game).

Of course the AMV contest was a lot of fun with a diverse selection of entries, and even as nerve wracking as it was, I had a lot of fun at the AMV panel I helped run.

Sweet...

Postby HolyVampire32 » Mon Apr 28, 2003 5:30 pm

Sup all,

I didn't get a chance to see the Masquerade but I heard it was great! I got a few shots of the people cosplaying, and the thing that kind of was odd was that there was a girl who was 12 years old but she was dressed up as Yuna from FF-2 with short shorts and a lot of people were saying this (in one of the forums) that she looks like some porn star or something like that :? ... Anyway, so hikari-sama what did you win for getting in 2nd place in the voice acting contest? Shit, I wish the age was 16 and not 18 I was dying to try my luck at it  shit shit shit, I'm really starting to hate the number 18...Anyway, even though it might not happen, I hope that they will have this contest year after year so I can at least try it once. But continuing with my series of questions, let me ask you this what do you think they should add to next years con?? I say they should show Yuri (yes I do realize that I am sounding like a major perv right now but I don't care) I mean they showed Yaoi (pardon spelling if its wrong) so they should show Yuri for the guys and yaoi for the girls, and I think they should have more anime screening, like maybe one or two of the latest anime out on the market that would be sweet...and one last thing, I was talking with a few of the guys who attended the con and we all agree on one thing... BOOTH GIRLS like the ones they have at big car shows or like the girls at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) that would kick ass... In more ways then one: twisted: ...Anyway, do you guys agree? So what do you think should be added to next years con?

i won a handful of dvd's (score!) and a chance to go to finals in NY. ^_^ maybe this means i can quit my shit job at costco and go be a voice actor. sure hope so. i despise costco. -_- and i thought that anybody over 14 could audition, so long as there was parental consent if you were under 18? maybe i'm wrong... you can check at their website (bigappleanimefest.com/animeidol) and find out... they're still gonna be at otakon, acen, and somewhere else, too, so maybe you can still try out! ganbatte!
