Western Digital actually tends to run pretty well in the higher GB number (120 on up). A hard drive is a hard drive in a lot of cases and since they are mechanical devices (moving parts) they tend to die a lot quicker and say a motherboard. It is unfortunatly though that just about every hard drive manufactorer has gone from a 3 year to a 1 year warranty.

Bi0, at the end of your post you said the deals don't start until May 27. Can I assume by the date given above (4/27/03) that that was a typo? Also do you know if the drive has a 2MB or 8MB cache and will the deal be available online too or in stores only? Thanks.

The 4/27/03 wasn't a typo saying May 27 was.
It runs April 27 to May 5.
I work for OfficeMax and we've been getting the ads about two weeks in advance so 4/27/03 is the start date for this sale.

Also it is the 2 MB cache, the store I work at just got the 8 MB cache. If the OfficeMax big wigs do it right then the 8 MB cache drive might be the sub. I'll keep an eye out for the substitute sheet to come out and see if the 8 MB is the sub.

As far as I know the deal is only good in store because they don't tell us what's going on online.

Cool, thanks. Sorry for typing Bi0 when I was trying to ask you a question  I guess we're tied 1 to 1 on typos :P

It is a good deal (provided one gets the rebates but I haven't had a problem with OfficeMax rebates yet) but I would be more of a shoe in to buy into it if I could get the 8MB cache model so please let us know when you know.

Oh, and feel free to give us 1-2 week notices on more deals as long as it doesn't bother work. I doubt it would, you're only generating further sales on a national level, but you never know. The nearest OfficeMax to me is a good 20-30 minutes away so advance notice helps a lot. They use to have one in town but it got shutdown over a year ago...great close out prices, too

ok the deal has started (4/27/03).

For note the substitute is the 8 MB cache so if the y don't have the standard 2 MB cache one ask if there is a sub don't ask for the drive specificaly.

Hmm... I was looking on the OfficeMax website for the Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive and saw that they sold it online for a price of $179.99. The $80 mail in rebate offer still applies to it. So that's $179.99 - $80 = $99.99. I'm just wondering which price is right... are they selling it for $179.99 online and $159.99 in the store, or are their prices supposed to be the same?

The 8 mb cache drive costs $179.99 and is the substitue for in store only you can only get the 8 MB drive if they are out of the standard drive. if they are you must ask for the 8 MB drive or your SOOL. the web site doesn't do substitiutes
