i made an amv to "MYUNG Theme" from macross plus, pure piano and woodwind instrumental. it was chalenging, but no lyrics allowed me to make a very emotionally charged vid, without having to rely on lyrics that migt be misheard or misunderstood.

Well, I'm working on my first instrumental piece, and unlike JCD's contention, I do believe this music fits the anime series perfectly, as much as any third party song could. And yes, I am finding it a lot easier coming up for ideas and synch for this than in my three previous vids... well, two of my three previous, that first one doesn't really count ^_^

JCD wrote:well, I'm actually doing an AMV to an instrumental song. The advantage is that you have no lyrics, so you mustn't synch it to these. The disatvantage is that an Instrumental song doesn't fit an anime to 100 %. I belive that an instrumental amv couldn't be that as good as an amv with 100 % matching lyrics.
I think it isn't easier, because you have to hear and synch to more beats of the song. defenitly it lasts longer to make than an amv with lyrics.
An instrumental piece is no better or worse suited to footage or to an idea than a lyrical piece would be. Really, it's up the the editor's skill and finess to pull off any idea, regardless of the type or quality of the song.
While there are no lyrics to match or drive a song-specific story, there are still aural alements pushing the editor forward, and it can sometimes be more challenging to create a functional progression without the aid of pre-recorded lyrics.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

Hmm, my "Carol of the Battousai" is an instrumental. It was kind of tough, since Lip-Sync is my 'Forte' I think, but I managed. Came out good to, instrumentals really are all about emotion and sound.
"Dojo! What is Rule One?"
"Do not act incautiously when confronting little bald wrinkly smiling men!"
Ish Co. Studios,
We put the 'Ish' in Ish Co.

I consider instr. amvs to actually be better if they are done well...emotion is much more important to a amv than some simple follow the story lyric lip sync. Found this one in a search to prove my point

Anyone who says instrumental videos can't be as good as lyrical ones obviously hasn't seen Kevin Caldwell's "Caffeine Encomium".
"If I had a nickel for every time I heard that..."
"You'd have a dime."
