Easier to find Forum Rules

Postby Corran » Mon Mar 17, 2003 5:48 am

As it currently is many people don't seem to notice the the site rules when signing up for the site. While having the site rules where it's at when signing up is a good idea, having another location for the forum rules(at least) would be nice. I know they are located in the Site Annoucements Forum however some people have never even cared to look in there which sustains their ignorance to these rules...

Perhaps altering the header and replacing 'Usergroups" (since there are none anyway) with a link to a definitive list of 'Forum Rules' could be done. This way people are well aware of the existance of the forum rules and we can prevent similar occurances of recent events.

I think the forum rules are on the signup page nowadays.

Hey,

AbsoluteDestiny is correct. The rules are posted on the sign-up page. There is now no excuse for new members to not know what the site rules are.

I admitted it in my original post and the one after AD's... A lot of people are anxious to join and neglet to read rules(I'm not saying this is right) Does not having a more obvious location help prevent the Panda incident and eliminate the excuse that they were ignorant though? That's the point I'm trying to make.

Well, the new forum members could chose not to read it and and just hit the next button or whatever. IM sure lots of people do that, I know I do. Altho I still know what the rules are due to people breaking them and MODs or other members tell them they are doing something wrong. I think a more effective way of getting people to read the rules should be in effect, zI just dont know how.

Hey Corran Productions,

In SpPanda's case, he stated that he had read the rules. But for some reason, it seems that he believes that the rules don't really apply to him. It's one thing to present the rules to someone; it's something entirely different for people to actually obey them.

Would doing this be too much of a labor though? In terms of other people I've shown them links to the rules because of warez posts they made before. They obviously didn't read them until I made them apparent and I haven't seen them do it again.

Hmm

People are just lazy and decide not to read the rules. I don't think moving them newhere "obvious" would help, as they're already in places that are obvious.

Did YOU read the rules before u went posting about? Did other ppl? Don't tell me no one did!

It's up to the person really, so if they get in trouble, it's their own fault.

I'm not sure what makes them think this site promotes that kind of thing neway :?

I agree that it probably wouldn't help in terms of people actually stopping to read the rules, but what it would do is keep someone from feigning ignorance to breaking a forum rule. Then they can't say to the Mods or Phade 'but the rules are over in blah blah blah, I've never seen them before, no one else reads them, etc.'
So from that standpoint, I believe it's a good idea, it helps for justification.

well, there are some rules that should be common knowledge. Such as being polite and stuff, thing's that people should normally do in real life.

Heh, actually I view all the forum rules as being nothing more than common sense.
Of course, as the saying goes, "Common sense isn't common."

By them being in the sign-up page it doesnt help much. I read them yes. But in less then two hours i forgot alot. I assume alot of them because of other boards and common sense. But some people arnt very...smart --; Its not hard to type up a single post that u could just copy paste so people who have short memorie woudlnt break them.
