I really don't care about the performance boost so much as giving them the recognition of the fact that they FINALY upped the bitrate of a CPU. And when you think about it, with the clock speeds they are starting to hit this is the pretty much their last resort to getting faster CPU's. I mean CPU's of 700 MHz or more will instanly burn themsielves out without a heatsink and fan. And the new ones are hitting 3+ GHz.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Not really. You didn't see that when newer chips are made, they are smaller and use less power. However, that's less power in a smaller space, so it kind of equals itself out. Any CPU over 66Mhz can burn itself out without atleast a heatsink.

Intel has plans to hit 10Ghz near the end of the decade. Also 64bit code sets in no way actually have to do with them eeking the last bit out of processor performance. There is still ALOT of room left for improvement and die shrinkage.

Intel getting 10GHz by the end of the decade? By then people will NEED liquid nitro to cool their comps. I'm in iwht AMD, better preformacne at lower clock speeds, cooling solutions are going ot get more costly as time wears on if they keep uping the MHz of the CPU's like that. Eventualy fans arent going to cut it.
