An interesting point, but... you read the contest rules when you send a video to a convention, don't you? Why didn't people read the VCA rules?

I didn't know it was going on until it started :?

I had not been here during the winter break and the first few weeks of the Spring semester.

Have you signed up for the newsletter? ("Newsletter: Bring it on!" in your site profile) One was sent out on 2003.01.26 mentioning that the VCAs were starting.

I signed up two weeks ago :) :(
I don't mind though, the only vid I had done is not great (good yes, but not great) and isn't something that I would care if entered or not. :|

I apologize that you feel that way. Maybe you and I got off to a bad start, but I will tell you truly that I don't have anything against you personally, and I never made any coments about your character. All I said was that what you think has little bearing on me because you were nominated too. I want you to know honestly that I am not arrogant, and I don't usually even attract this much attention, much less do so on a regular basis a la jbone/Xstylus/Tomy Rude. I'm 17 years old, and for anyone who has been around the forum for long enough knows, I'm a true blue good netizen of this comunity/forum. I really don't think I deserved that coment.
That said, I don't think it makes any sense to be making personal attacks against me or my character, and I don't appreciate it. I know that you do very well in this forum, and I have never known you to start fights/pick on newbs or anything. So please, extend the curtousy to me, and please stop making this a personal matter.

Well when I asked about VCA's awhile back I was told everyone is entered and we don't need to do anything. I guess they forgot to tell me about some box to check. I also didn't know when they started, as I looked on the calendar at the end of the year and saw nothing (its still not there btw) I didn't know about it till I saw all these ppl asking for votes.

Amazing because I have entered my videos in SOO many competitions, and been in the finalists pretty much every time. I just never won an award. Do I deserve it? Hell yes. I can say that in all honesty I believe in the power of my creation like an engineer, sure beyond scientific scrutiny that his product is the best availible, I know that I put the time, resource, and caring into my videos that should by all of my own reconing be more than enough to create a wonderful imosional expierience.

Even though you make the finals everytime, there's always gonna be videos with the same amount, or even more effort than that you've put in. Remember that it's not really your decision who decides whether you win an award or not. Your "Lies" video did well at AX and I enjoyed it, but the crowd decided otherwise.

I appreciate the coment, but I'm afraid you take me even closer to the point I was trying to make: that video was created SPECIFICLY for the "Best First Video" category. I wanted more than anything when I came into this comunity to earn that award. I even went out and advertised to people to nominate it. Friends, family, whoever would create an account (I refuse to box stuff, or create a whole bunch of accounts or anything, I was getting honest votes, in a sort of in-honest way) but lo, and behold, I didn't even get nominated in that category. It's just a very humiliating thing to have something that I worked so hard on seemingly trashed, and in some instances to videos I thought OBVIOUSLY inferior. I guess it can all just be seen as artistic difference. As style. It just seems to me like there should be some universal goal... like... the scenes fit together... or... the timing is right. Maybe I'm exagerating, but it feels like that sometimes. And it's hard to deal with as an artist.
I don't mind begging, I just want some freaking recognition. But hey, even if I don't get the award, I'm still going to be at AX with my vids, and fanime, and elsewhere I'm sure. I apreciate those of you that took this seriously, and I'm saddened by those that took it any other way.

I think you are taking this way too hard on yourself. If you know you made a great video and others have seen it and told you the same, shouldn't that be enough?

I don't know. That's just my thoughts.
