Strategicon - This Weekend

Postby anneke » Thu Feb 13, 2003 11:42 am

Is anyone going to Strategicon this weekend.

www.strategicon.net

It's at the Westin near LAX. It's a gaming convention but I will be running an anime room from 8am Saturday till midnight on Sunday. We will be showing 'This is Otakudom', and we have an 1 hour time slot each day to show AMVs.

People complain about AMV contests, this is just an Exhibition. So bring your AMVs with you and I'll show them as time premits. If this goes well we will try and expand this exhibition showing.

Convention report, not that anyone cares...

Showed lots of Anime. The Special 'adult' showing of Perfect Blue drew a good sized crowd but due to hecklers the audience didn't stay. Will be showing things subtitled for adult showings from now on to keep hecklers down.

'This is Otakudom' was very popular this time. We had a good 40 people in the room for the first showing and 20-30 for the Sunday showing. Figure most of the time the room had about 8-10 people. (Which is better then the convention before when we would get usually 2-3 during the day and 20 at night). Some even asked about getting a copy of it.

The AMVs went over well as usual, and Bahumet God brought some of his which I showed. The audience really liked his 'Coconuts' video. Being in the back projection room I couldn't hear what was going on in the main theater.

I also showed Battle Royal on Sunday night and the audience really enjoyed it as well. Had fourty people for it as well. Same thing for Spirited Away. The room can hold 200 so there is plenty of room for growth with this convention, and it seems to slowly be going already.

The next time the convention Occurs is in May. I'm going to have to write up stuff on how to submit AMVs to me for showing at the convention.

Yeah, the maturity level of that audience was a little low.
