Postby Mero Goat » Thu Jan 23, 2003 6:14 pm

I tried PSMplay but it catured at a lower resolution.

Read through Quu's guide to video game footage (under the "Guides" section over in the navigation in the main site). PSMPlay rips the footage to.. well.. what it is.

In FF7's case, for example, that was 320x244, 15 fps.

Follow Quu's guide. Upsize your footage in VirtualDub, apply the proper filters, downsize it again... you'll get a damn good looking product. I did this in my latest video, and I was damn happy with the results.

UPsized video doesn't ever look as good as the original (still... only to trained eyes :o) but DOWNsized is cool, UPsized is a gamble at best.

PSXMC is another good little program also mentioned in Quu's guide. You can double the clips' size.

However, like knowname said, UPsizing is not really taht worth the extra hard drive space.

Upsizing the video, applying the proper filters, and bringing it back down was DEFINITELY worth the hard drive space...

I didn't use more than 15 gigs, total, either...

If you're working with PSX footage, I can't stress and endorse enough following Quu's guide straight through.

(halfway shameless plug) You're more than welcome to check out the video I did using FF7 footage to see for yourself what the advantages are.

i find that its good to edit int he upsized space... but eventually... you have to downsize it back to the oroginal size....

sometimes you don't get what you want ^_^ and psx footage is best at 320x240 (somtiems with black bars added)

but... in all things... experiment with that you want... mine is only a guide... you have to find your own balance

Hey Quu in the guides when talking about PSX Video. Is it really 150Kbits or is it 150Kbytes ?

I just really can't see a MJPEG codec making semi-decent looking encodes @ 150Kbits :|

i think it might be bytes...

its what ever a 1X cd-rom is.... i was sure it was bits....

and MJPEg can do a good job... when its 16-bit colour and 15 frames a second...

Well a 1x CD is 150KBytes. I think it's probably bytes as 150kbits would only allow about 1250bytes(about 1.25KB) worht of data per frame which doesn't seem like it would be enough.
