muxing downloaded MP3 to AVI

Postby Ashton » Sat Jan 11, 2003 10:38 pm

Ok, so I did an entire AMV, and I compressed the video stream, and I used a downloaded MP3 to edit the video. I would really like to know if there is a way that I can mux the mp3 to the avi stream WITHOUT recompressing it so it stays in its original quality.

The guides cover this. Basically, you mux it in VDub by selecting Direct Stream Copy to avoid recompression. But, there's some stipulations to getting it to work properly.

Right! Used VirtuatlDubMod, and the results are very nice. Its only downloaded music, but it sounds like I encoded the audio myself because it was done well by the other guy. Check it out, it really worked! :D

I quote the guides...

The Guides wrote:if you were using an mp3 as a source (shame on you :P) and made a wav file from it for editing, you will be losing quality again when reencoding to mp3. If you can, make sure that there is no silence at the start of your video (so that the first frame of the video is the first frame of the audio) then you can use the original mp3 file for the audio stream using Nandub.

So, you CAN use the original MP3 as audio for the encoding. I mucked up the details, but you can use the MP3, according to the guides.

Still, Ashton got it to work for him, so that's what important. I'd check it out, but I don't want Sen To Chihiro No Kamikakushi spoilers. Gomen!!

Muxing it using nandub and/or virtualdubmod is not a good idea.

However, if it's a variable bitrate mp3 there's nothing else you can do. If it is constant bitrate then you could add a wav header and mux it with vdub. I'm not sure if vdubmod is sensible enough to not use the nandub muxing method for cbr mp3s, so it might be fine.

I do know it still uses the nandub method for vbr stuff, though, as it's the only workaround.

In terms of playback, though, it should be ok with the method you used.
