Taping anime

Postby shocker » Wed Jan 08, 2003 6:11 pm

I have a particularly stupid question. There is going to be an anime movie being shown on a pay cable network soon. Now I have seen videos that had footage taped from Cartoon Network, but is taping anime from cable or network television for the use of making AMV's illegal?

It's about as "illegal" as getting your source footage from anywhere else.

I don't think many amv people would question the legality, just the quality.

Plus you have to come up with a creative way to cover up the CN logo on the bottom

Well, this anime isn't on CN. It's on a premium network (i.e. HBO, Encore, Cinemax, Starz, etc.). I only asked this because I didn't know if it was illegal to use anime that you taped from any other network or just networks where you have to pay extra money for them. I've seen a few videos with the station logo on them, and I was just curious.

No legal problems at least not amongst the creators. However quality will be small since it is a TV abroadcast off a second gen tape and possibly a station logo in the corner. If you have another way of getting footage I strongly recomend it.
