VCD Compatibility
I'm sorta new to the VCD section of video so bear with me...
I'm under the impression that VCDs are MPEG-1 and SVCDs are MPEG-2.
What encoding procedures do the MPEG video files have to be under to work on a DVD player?
Here's what I think the conditions are:
Frame size: any size
Frame rate: either 23.976 or 29.97 only
Bitrate: any
Sound: 44.1 Khz, any bitrate
....if I'm wrong in any section please tell me so that I don't end up wasting tons and tons of CD-Rs. I've tested a home-made VCD on my player and it works so you can count I sorta know what I'm doing. I'm just wondering what restrictions I'm set to.

Re: VCD Compatibility
Actually, there are very strict frame size and bitrate settings for something to be VCD and SVCD compliant.Ko Oh Yoku wrote:I'm sorta new to the VCD section of video so bear with me...

Open up TMPGEnc and load the VCD/SVCD settings, you'll see what they are.

If your source is 23.976fps, you might as well use that framerate to get a better-looking end-product.TobinHood wrote:Frame size: 352x240 for NTSC or 352x288 I believe for PAL (I always use NTSC)
Frame rate: use 29.97
Bitrate: 1150kbps
Sound: 44.1 Khz, 224kbps
It's much easier just to load the vcd template for TMPG
