ErMac HELP! Huffyuv 3GB output

DV compresseses by about 5:1, huffyuv gets about 2:1 in rgb mode and 4:1 in yuy2 mode. I don't know too much about DV, except that its fixed to either 720x480 @ 29.97 fps or 720x576 @ 25 fps and at a datarate of.. er.. whatever 5:1 of uncompressed is (im too tired to do that much calculating now _ _)
I know it uses an advanced version of the DCT used in jpeg and mpeg 1/2, but my vast knowledge borders on that part of DV ('sides, I don't use it after all)

Mechaman wrote:DV is actually related more to MJPEG.
DV is meant as a editing codec, while MPEG2 was always intended as a production codec. As such, while both are lossy, DV is not nearly as lossy between generations as MPEG2, in addition to every frame being a keyframe. So that's why it's encouraged to work in it if your footage is already DV.

There's no real benefit transcoding to HuffYUV. Huff can't restore anything lost in the DV encoding, so all you'll gain is your aforementioned increase in diskspace, for the same quality footage.

I was wrong....

I don't have any use for DV at the moment since I don't have a capture card nor a camera :p So I really don't know much about DV.

Thanx for englightening me ;)

somehow I dont think you understand what "uncompressed" means. You got to the end but you completely lost the plot along the way.

...try reading the guides and actually understanding what you are doing - it's an edifying experience.

True, that's uncompressed. However, because of your terrible grammar the sentence said:

"i encoded my 3.7gb uncompressed with tmpgenc"

You can't encode something uncompressed with tmpeg. You can encode an uncompressed avi into a compressed mpeg with TMPEGenc but that's not what you said.

I don't know what's wrong with you... someone is actually trying to help you and you react as you know everything when it's pretty obvious that you don't.

Please, try to be more polite or just try to figure out things by yourself if you don't like to be taught.

And, by the way, your answer can be easily found in the guides and in the Unofficial AMV FAQ (link below)

you're all wrong. i WAS asking for help, but i clearly posted that i didnt need help anymore, yet SOME people insist on correcting a sentece that wasnt quite right. how is that helpful? it isnt. it also was insulting my intelligence so i obviously had to retaliate. BTW "well screw huffyuv i encoded my 3.7gb uncompressed with tmpgenc" obviously you guys knew what it meant, so dont get picky about stuff. im guaranteeing that i wont get help from HIM anymore, which i could care less about. he is not helpful he only tried to say i didnt know what uncompressed was. if he was a helpful person, like someone i talked to from SaiyanTripleStrike, he would tell me to compress the video with tmpgenc or some other program, whichever you prefer, and help me encode my video. instead, he decided to insult me and be a jerk about the whole thing. look, i didnt ask for your opinion on my grammer or definition of a word, i just asked how to encode my video and make it work. from now on, if someone asks a question, ANSWER IT OR SHUT UP!!! i know everything i need to know from exploring and reading posts and asking FRIENDLY people how to do stuff, and that was my last question. ill be sure to exclude you guys from any other topics i start. you people arent needed in this forum.

Wow. Not only is he pompous and arrogant, and not only does he not know how to accept help, he takes every statement personally and then attacks those trying to provide the education.

Don't come back to this forum and ask for help. In fact, if you're going to be like that, don't bother coming back here at all. You're a waste of intelligence. :-)

You've already encoded your video so there's nothing else I can do to help you there. What I did suggest was that you read ErMaC's guide carefully to get a better understanding of what is compressed, what isn't compressed and what the different codecs are used for. That was called "helping".

As for knowing what you meant, no I didn't know what you meant. I read that sentence literally.

Given that you started the thread thinking that huffyuv would output a filesize similar to DV I presumed you still had no idea what uncompressed meant - I figured you thought uncompressed was something that didn't look compressed.

Next time, ask the right questions and you'll get the right answer.
