Believe me, I feel really bad that yours was the only uplifting drama I could find in the slate of finalists, especially since the unfortunate miscategorization of your Gohan video in the 2011 contest was one of the things that convinced me of the necessity for an "Uplifting" option in the first place. So it had to be either fun or sentimental (in order not to break the streak of always putting each finalist in a category that the creator selected on the entry form), and it totally didn't fit tonally with the rest of the romance/sentimental entries.

I also feel really bad about the excellent horror video that had to be lumped in with the dramas because it was the only horror video among the finalists.

Don't worry, it's not just you. My video seems to be confusing a lot of coordinators. I don't mind when it's moved to another category, I understand grouping videos together in such a way so the show itself makes sense. I can only submit where my entries belong in my eyes. I can't predict what the judges and coordinators will think.

We actually got more entries this year than last year.

We don't like to have a category with fewer than 3 entries. Last year we received at least 3 videos that could be called "Horror". Same goes for "Artistic". So we had an award for them. This year we simply didn't with the field of videos we received. But we were able to put together a Character Profile category instead.

Clarification added. The categories we select don't depend on how many of each type we receive, it depends on how many of each type make the final cut.

Update. First of all, this past weekend I sent an e-mail out to all contestants with any noncompeting or overflow videos this year, asking for preference as to Friday or Saturday's block. If you did not get one, please check your junk mail filter. This does not apply to finalists, as videos in the finals are only played in the contest screenings, not in the overflow blocks.

Now for this year's schedule of AnimeNEXT AMV events:

Friday
AMV overflow screening, 1:15 - 2:45 P.M. in Main Video (DoubleTree executive parlors)
AMV contest screening, 8:00 - 10:00 P.M. in DT Main Events (ballroom, like last 2 years)

Saturday
AMV contest screening, 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. in DT Main Events
AMV contest screening, 11:45 A.M. - 1:45 P.M. in Main Video
AMV overflow screening, 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. in Main Video
Deadline to get ballots in to the Info Desk is 3:00 P.M.
Contest winners are shown in Main Events (GSEC) after everyone is seated for the Masquerade; I expect to start around 7:00 P.M.

Sunday
AMV contest encore screening, 12:45 - 2:45 P.M. in Main Video
