Funny you should link that, because this is how I always imagine what judging in an amv contest is like.

I imagine that (as an editor) more along the lines of what certain showstoppers do to the competing AMVs in their same categories. I'm pretty sure I saw it happen at AX last year.

Keep in mind, however, that I can't guarantee I can move it to the category of your choosing and have it still be a Finalist.

Experimental is definitely interesting. In 2003+ we had a category called "Free Form" which eventually evolved into Experimental. I think Upbeat/Dance wasn't particularly common at the time yet so it was sort of the category that would catch videos that didn't fit into other categories but were still good enough to compete. Then a couple years ago Trailer got tacked onto Experimental. (There was a trailer category at one time but then it disappeared...) It's one more aspect I'll be scrutinizing for next year. But I'm happy to say that this year Experimental really has some fabulous entries that really are unique, and some awesome trailers as well.

Quick note- a couple folks have asked what will happen to non-finalist vids. Those videos will be given to Stage Zero for exhibition. There may also be a small preshow with honorable mentions but that list hasn't been determined yet.

A surprising number of short (2:30~) videos made the cut. But yeah, Fanime tends to have room for more videos per cat since we have so few (and our show length is on par with cons that have 5-7 cats. I'm hoping for 5-6 for us next year, in which case categories will shrink somewhat.)
