Debuting an AMV at con or posting online right of way...

Post by Gene Starwind 21122 » Fri Apr 25, 2014 5:51 pm

So I have a question for everyone here. I've been out of editing for a while. So is it better to post your video right away or debuting it at a con, even if that means holding it off for 2 months. Would you say there is a draw back to posting right away? What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks,

I typically don't wait to premiere at a con. I tried doing that years ago and didn't make finals.

I'm a firm believer in jinxes. I know a good number of people who wait tho so I may be in the minority.

I've always premiered at-con. But then again, I only ever used to send mine to my local con. I also have an awful tendency to not actually release my vids on the interwebs 'til ages after they've premiered, even if I only send them to one con, so maybe I'M the minority. Dunno.

I personally don't like sitting on videos I've made simply to have them premiere at-con.

One, I'm impatient as hell about releasing them. XD

Two, I think the biggest benefit of premiering your video at a con is if you are attending said con. Being able to see your video for the first time publicly and getting that very first reaction can be especially inspiring for a lot of people. :)

Since I don't travel often (lol, I'm poor), premiering videos at cons doesn't really appeal to me. However, there's no right or wrong answer to this. Everyone has their preference on the matter.

After getting some interlacing issues taken care of next week. I may have my video up. I can't wait to get it out there. So I'm looking forward to release my first amv in 7 years.

I usually edit with a deadline for a contest looming. So I often find myself waiting till that con is over before releasing the video. It's usually AWA that I make videos specifically for. Though I have been known to finish a video and wait quite a while to release it such as till April 1st and just release a bunch of vids at once. It really depends on my mood.

Depends on the video.

If I'm making it for a specific convention then I'll hold on to it for a bit but if I'm just editing to edit then no fucks are given.
Lately though I've been trying to hold on to videos for a while after I finish them so I can try to look at them objectively after I finish it (we all know this is a bit difficult during the process of editing) and make a couple needed changes before they go up for the world to see. :P

Same here. But now I tend to let them make the rotation at a few of the large cons I send them to before I release them. I know most viewers at AMV contests at cons don't necessarily watch them outside cons, but I like my videos to be as fresh as possible to the audience.
