that's not a trophy, it's a deadly chunk of resin designed for the zombie apocalypse.

Troy, I like the idea you had about finding someone to make miniature director chairs, something easily placed on a shelf. i just don't know who off the top of my head but i'm sure there's people out there that could.

LMAO... well I don't think all the peps would like to edit for nothing or because this is an art. You will get an amount of cash for organizing this contest, I bet you will and everyone else from the con as well. The editors will get the most cheap stuff in the end. Why is that ? To make this simple for you guys - 10.000 attendees, and tickets 20-45$ plus the rent for the shops, the owners will make lots of money. When we win something we get certificates, anime dvds, trophies which will not cost more than 100$. I think this is a joke at our address and efforts. (my personal opinion)

Uh.. I don't know the specifics on AX, but if it's like most cons, the majority of the staff consists of volunteers who are, at most, paid back in the form of hotel discounts or a free badge in return for working the majority of the con. On top of that, AX is a non-profit, so it's highly unlikely anyone is getting filthy rich from running this con. So much of the money that goes into cons goes directly into running the con, renting the space, and everything inbetween...

Edit: Taken from the 2013 staffer info, found here, full-fledged staffers basically get up to 2 free badges, some goodies, some discounts, and food "provisions". That's their "payment"; there's no cash. You can read up on volunteers here, if you want... but they receive less in perks than staffers due to obvious reasons.

Lol man all cons are made for profit do you think I was born yesterday ? Come on. For example one of the owners in my country makes at least 3000 to 5000 euro every year! That money is besides renting the space and so on. That money goes directly into his wallet. Let's not start here a serious discussion than cause will inflict some damage to the owners. I just wanted to say what I had to say up there and this is final. It's AX topic for god's sake lol.

YES, Indeed... Every time I won, they did not have chairs.. I bet if I quite my staffing position so I could enter to win a chair, Troy would not have any just to spite me :P

Your award would be a stick figure chair drawn on a napkin. :P

I'm thinking of trying to do something "chair'ish" and nice for past winners, actually. Though it'd have to be out of my own personal pocket if I do it (cuz I luv youze guyze...)

So I should already get in line for my chairs :P

But then again my house is already full of Director Chairs from Sakura-Con past contests (AX was not the only one giving out chairs as SC did as well in the past - Hmmm... must be an west coast thing 8-) )

AX is the only successful anime con in north America that I know of that has paid execs, and I think its just one person at the top. For-profit cons tend to not do well in the anime con scene. Most of them have to deal with rental rates that scale to what corporate trade shows can afford, but they charge their attendees $40-$60 to get in instead of the $100-$1000+ trade shows charge to businesses that just write it off as a cost of doing business.

Man AX has 40k peps every year. How do you think they can afford to invite so many big names ? Actors, @cosplay and so on do not come for free not in million years from now. They charge a lot trust me cause I know. And one more thing. How do you think they had so much money back in 2010 or 2011 ? I hope you guys are not blind. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/php ... p?t=155396 And besides AX everyone is doing it because this is really a business in the end. We, editors don't get shit. The organizers do.

Chemix, if this is a topic you're genuinely interested on and you aren't just trolling, feel free to message me privately (or open a different thread elsewhere) and I'll give all the gory details about AX's financials and profitability (or lack thereof, particularly in the very same years you cited) as it's a topic I'm well informed on and I actually enjoy talking about, just not in this thread.

You're also welcome to open a separate thread regarding the topic of trying to "go pro" on the AMV creation hobby or on trying to turn it into a profitable thing, but again, not here because that's a volatile topic. To be honest, that's a thread I'd find very entertaining as I think you'll find a lot of people on this forum will hand you your ass on that topic. :P

I will request moderators to delete any future posts in this thread regarding those topics. Again, take them elsewhere.

I'm not trolling bro, stay chill. I was trying to stop but you see the people from this community keep the subject going because it's really interesting. Hope you won't ban me now because I started to talk about financial stuff @AX and all the cons as well. That would be so lmao.
