Mabye we should just give them the '2 many hearts' award.....(crickets chirp)

The contests first exposition rule i'm not 100 percent sure is a good idea given that AWA is in the fall and it seems like the spring/summer is when the latest big videos get released(probubly to capitalize the con season).
Myself I only managed a pro entry this year because i hadn't sent said video off to any cons given the clusterfuck that my whole life has been this year.
This has no relevence to the discussion above it

Damn, I just bet my left nut last night on a video I was highly sure you made.

You seem to make a lot of bets these days. Hows that working out for you?

getting closer to finish up watching all of em. hopefully will post my one liner critiques by the end of the night :P

EDIT: ok i'm done. i wanted to be more thorough with each but there's just so many of em X( anyway, i was pretty honest and flat out rude sometimes  sorry about that. oh and i didn't watch the NC-17 and X videos because i'm a prude, so those have no opinion.
Spoiler :
AWA Pro 2013 Reviews

002 - Very pretty indeed. editing was clean and professional. but i didn't connect with the characters at all. however i'm left curious about the anime itself, and the cards...

005 - didn't watch this all the way thru. i got the point about half-way thru. seemed kinda haphazardly thrown together even tho the combo was rather interesting.

004 - i've seen a lot of toradora videos already so this one didn't stand out to me much. the constant zoom outs on almost every scene got a little monotonous, would have been more interesting if you changed it up more.

006 - didn't really "get" it. some of the effects felt unnecessary but that could just be artistic style.

007 - excellent quality, disney never looked so shiny! the editing and the storytelling however felt lazy to me. i think you were so intent on letting the animation do the work that a lot of the clips lost connection with the song (especially during the lip flap). in short, the video and audio didn't feel unified.

008 - what the heck was that? i don't know but i like it!

009 - haaahahaha that audio clip was funny, where'd that come from? oh yeah, well edited, nice job :)

010 - very intriguing. makes me wanna watch the anime even more. (i will eventually)

011 - lots of great animation and scene selection, but nothing really pulled me in.

012 - i like this one a lot. great job capturing the emotion and unifying song and anime.

013 - WOW those effects were crazy! i started to ignore some text after a while just cuz there was so much of it. i don't wanna work that hard watching an amv XD

014 - i was intrigued by the combo at first, but the subtitles were distracting along with the random japanese script. and then it was over...

015 - >_O that song was a lot longer than it needed to be.

016 - super scary freaky! loved it

017 - thaaaaat was pretty cute. only complaint is the text work could be improved.

018 - meh. that one kinda seemed to only have the shock factor going for it.

019 - i've never seen animation like that... very tim burton

020 - very sentimental and sweet. i didn't really understand the story tho so it was hard to follow along, any longer and i probably would have spaced out.

021 - that song's gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day now. good editing, clean transitions, good special fx use. the panning and zooming got a little out of hand tho.

022 - kinda hard for me to judge this one cuz i beta tested another vid to the same song that i adore. good song edit at the end.

030 - issues with aspect ratios. seen this kinda thing before so not really stunning.

033 - the feathered edge effects felt forced and unnecessary. other than that t'was ok.

039 - wait... what? was it a dream?

046 - daaaaamn... this needs to be the official trailer for whatever the hell it is. i was so intrigued i forgot i was judging something.

048 - ohhhh cuteness.

050 - this anime again. what the heck is it? audio quality seemed pretty low but i imagine finding much better would be near impossible.

051 - great idea and a lot of heart. a bit roughly edited and the linear story made it really predictable, also made the scene of hiccup and toothless first bonding seem out of place. a filter of some kind would have been good to differentiate it from the linear story.

068 - OMG how friggen adorable was that!

070 - a unique rendition of flcl for certain. i didn't really understand the point but it was cool to look at.

071 - this one seemed to have real sentimental value to the editor.

074 - first i need to say that these two sources have no business being put together (like fma and backstreet boys). that said, it was actually put together really well and i enjoyed it.

075 - really intense... i had a hard time understanding what was going on tho and i didn't get the point of some of the effects.

078 - i was really intrigued until about half-way through. then the story got a little muddled and i got lost. i didn't understand the significance of the robot at the end.

079 - not sure what to make of this one. anime promoter? opening parody?

080 - GAAAHHHHH I WISH IT WAS LONGER! i loved the mixing of manga, anime AND live action! but then again i love kimi ni todoke so it could just be my bias XD

089 - this anime again? it must be the new thing! this song is very intense and passionate. i didn't really get that from the characters.

090 - this is one of those series where if you haven't seen it you won't have a CLUE what's going on. makes amv making rather difficult unless you make up your own story for it.

095 - ....

097 - such an ironic combination, unfortunately it didn't really work.

098 - a loooootta quality issues in this one. footage was crummy, ratio issues, watermarks, blah blah blah. but there's heart in there, and potential.

101 - edited very well, not my kind of music.

102 - kind of a sudden stop. t'was loose and flowy in the beginning but then got really linear. that movie's hard enough to understand as it is. i would have made it a bit more flighty.

105 - great drama vid, great storytelling.

109 - it's a shame about the footage quality for how much effort went into this.

110 - epic potential for this combo but the proper footage for this monster isn't available yet...

113 - ok that's it i'm buying the song.

115 - nicely done but a lot of reading.

132 - k got a little teary on that one

134 - didn't really understand the story, but there's another entry with the same anime that i didn't really get either so maybe it's the series.

135 - DIVX LOGO!! WOO!

136 - oi ratio and quality issues big time.

138 - this is why i love this contest. where else can you download shit like this XD

140 - good storytelling. not sure how necessary some of the text was but i understand why it's in there.

156 - i hope when the earth ends we'll be accompanied by an unknown source supplying the wub wub wub wub

163 - solid editing, most bizarre combination of sources i've ever seen. song was a bit repetitive and started to drag towards the end. i checked the time a couple times.

167 - pretty, and simple.

Had to re-watch most of these 2-3 times to get my category checklist looking like i actually tried to come up with some... Decided to play the game too and write up comments. It's really only what came to mind, not detailed at all.

Spoiler :
002 - Constant motion actually made me dizzy.
003 - Extremely well edited for a hentai video.
004 - Very cute.
005 – I don't even...
006 – I'm terribly confused.
007 - Tropes in video form. Pacing issues and video slowdown were off-putting.
008 - Interesting.
009 - Comedic, I suppose.
010 - Creepy and interesting.
011 - High action. Good stuff. Style seems familiar...
012 - A bit awkward and jerky in places. Quite long.
013 – Technically engaging.
014 - My head is full of fuck.
015 - It's subtle, but I'm sensing a theme here.
016 - Not bad.
017 - Ok, that was comedy. Doesn't hold up to watching multiple times, but it's not bad.
018 – Rainbow-tastic
019 - I can't tell if it's amazingly well put together or just a few cut-scenes back-to-back.
020 - The crossfades are really distracting – most are overly long.
021 - Liked this quite a bit. Good action vid.
022 - AR and aliasing issues were a big turn-off
030 - Really liked the idea of this. Execution had a few minor issues, but I still kinda like it.
033 - Timing seems noticeably poor (usually late), to the point where it's distracting.
039 - Not personally engaging for me, but not bad.
044 - Compelling use of audio. I couldn't find any reason what this wasn't in the R-block.
046 - Did not realize this was a thing.
048 - Didn't really pull me in. Not sure why.
050 – Okay, I lol'd.
051 – THEOKAYTHEOKAYTHEOKAYTHEOKAYTHEOKAYTHEOKAYTHEOKAY.
068 – All sorts of daw.
070 – Took a while to build the engagement level up.
071 - Not bad, but terribly simplistic.
073 - Crude humor, Yes, but this is in no way deserves more than an R rating.
074 - Would this be a re-akshun then?
075 - I find myself confused and intrigued
078 - Also interesting.
079 – I feel like there's something I'm missing...
080 – Great mixing of media.
090 – All. The. Feels.
095 - I don't even have time to comment.
097 - So much potential, but the scene selection seemed almost random for about 2/3 of the video.
098 - Compressed to hell – seemingly even before editing started.
101 – That was indeed a thing.
102 - Good storytelling.
105 – I take it this is a summery? Some tech issues, but not bad.
109 - Horrendous video quality issues.
110 - It took some serious effort to make something so new look like it was made in the late 90s.
113 - Quite impressive
115 - Despite my general dislike of so much text and my absolute hate of overdubbing dialog, I kinda enjoyed this.
132 - My speakers did not like this audio at all.
134 – Watermarks and banding everywhere.
135 - Is this a joke?
136 – Painful to watch.
138 - Really different. I enjoyed it.
140 - Not a fan of the text; not bad though.
163 - Really long. How the hell did this go into “PG” filled with that much blood/violence?
167 - There's something awkward and distracting about the transitions that I can't put my finger on.

Ok, time for my two cents I suppose.

Spoiler :
002: The takeaway from this video is that the best way to deal with heartbreak is to slap cards across a floor.

003: Surprised this was the only HMV in the contest. And it's a rather good one at that.

004: What is all this footage of Tommy and Sommer doing in the contest?

005: Probably would've been funnier (or maybe actually funny) if Dr. Girlfriend lip synced most of the song.

006: Who on earth stuffs a note in the crotch of a bear?

007: One long montage of Disney characters staring at each other longingly. Absolutely beautiful footage quality though.

008: Doesn't feel like there's any cohesion between any of the sources other than they're doing a whole heck of a lot of running.

009: The whole video relies solely on the audio to come off as funny; and worse yet, the audio's not funny.

010: I did like this video, but the ending feels too violent for the mellow sound of the song.

011: Footage/editing feels too spastic.

012: A good chunk of the footage looks kind of jerky. Not sure if it's the footage's CG integration or if it was slowed down.

013: While it's highly polished, this type of video really isn't my cup of tea. The lip sync's not too good either.

014: Umm... ok.

015: Way too repetitive for my tastes.

016: A fun little horror video. Perhaps a little anti-climatic though.

017: Ok, I chuckled a little.

018: I was expecting a massive amount of Rainbow Dash puns.

019: Interesting animation. Being it's game footage and how well all the scenes meld together, I'm wondering about how much actual editing was done; or put another way, was it just sequential cutscenes strung together.

020: Given the thumpy beat of the song, I would think the video would be better served by sticking more to hard cuts than crossfades.

021: Good song/footage combo. The footage/cuts are too quick a lot of the time for the pace of the song. Nonetheless, it's enjoyable.

022: The heavy aliasing is really distracting.

030: The various footage feels as disconnected as the song does. Also, the quality of the song mashing isn't too good (the volume of the vocals goes all over the place before/after the song switches)

033: Kind of a generic draction video.

039: I'd be able to appreciate this better if I understood the lyrics.

044: This is considered NC-17? Anyhow, I was amused.

046: Very dramatic. Wish I knew why the characters were doing what they did.

048: Who thought it was a good idea to pair Miley Cyrus with Jon Travolta?

050: I should probably go watch the Cardcaptor opening since I've never seen it.

051: Pacing felt mismatched.

068: Wonder if I need to get my blood sugar checked now.

070: This was rather interesting. Nice buildup.

071: I thought boxers were supposed to float like bees, not fly like hawks.

073: This is X rated?? *scratcheshead* I'd have expected stronger content for such a rating.

074: Nice parody. Ileia's original video is still more epic though.

075: Very different for an ef video

078: I thoroughly enjoyed this.

079: After some research on the audio, was this supposed to be a parody of Kamen Rider?

080: Use ALL the media!

090: A downer Ivy Bridge...

095: And I've got no time for this video.

097: This amv was brought to you courtesy of Apple.

098: The quality of this is just horrible.

101: The severe disconnect between the lyrics and the footage threw me off.

102: An enjoyable little adventure piece.

105: Was it necessary to throw the title of the video so far into it?

109: I was all psyched to see a Blood-C video in the lineup; and then I watched it... The quality looks terrible on top of it being such a small resolution (after being letterboxed; which is an issue on its own). The action seems to pick up as soon as the song slows down...

110: I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the same person made this and #109. Same problems apply, plus an even more noticeable lack of sync.

113: Most, if not all, of the effects added nothing to the video.

115: The text an dialogue together killed it for me.

132: Maybe I missed something, but I don't quite get what was going on in this video.

134: The filename says it's various footage, but this looks like only a single source to me.

135: Wow, divx logos and fansubs. This takes me back.

136: There's no cohesion between any of the sources.

138: I don't usually like manga videos, but this was amusing.

140: This video blue me away (sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun).

163: Source count: OVER 9000! Jokes aside, I enjoyed this.

167: I'm all out of inspiration for comments at this point. Sorry.

Re: The AWA 2013 Video Review Thread

Don't really feel like putting the time into doing a review for every video, but thought I'd list which videos I would give the awards to (assuming each of these will be categories) with a little comment. And a couple extras I felt like commenting on.

Spoiler :
Best Romance - #3: Really loved the visual flow of this. The editing is super clean and it syncs up very well with the song. Doesn't really have a strong concept, but I don't think that matters too much as this works well as more of an abstract/mood concept. My runner-up for best in show.

Best Comedy / Parody - #17: Well edited for the most part. Most of the text was well done, but there were a couple of points it threw me off. Mainly not a fan of text with outer glow around it. Sources fit well together and there's some good funny moments. Thought it could have used a couple more jokes though.

Best Storytelling - #105: Very cleanly edited, good story telling and matches the mood of the song well. Some nice transition here and there as well. Thought at some points it could have been a little faster and synced with the song more.

Best Action - #21: Really matches the song well and hits strong at the points it should. Alot of points with some cool sync and transitions. There were a couple small areas that felt a little too fast and could be cleaner, but for the most part it was pretty entertaining.

Best Sentimental - #90: Really had the feels for this one. Captured the emotions of the characters well and kept me wanting to watch more. Problems were that at sometimes the panning felt a little overdone and some parts felt a little repetitive, but overall had nice pacing and story telling.

Best Drama - #16: Has some nifty sync at some points and captures the mood/feel of the song really well. Editing was nice for the most part, but felt like there was a couple parts that were too slow. Great scene selection overall though.

Best in show / Best technical - #13: Really enjoyed this and now one of my favorite videos of the year. The effect work really went above and beyond and was really creatively added to the video. Main problem was that the lip sync was pretty off. Overall a really fun video to watch.

Other comments:

#97: This had a SHITton of potential. Some parts were really nice, but the encoding is really poor and theres alot of spots that could have been stronger and better edited tech-wise. Still was somewhat enjoyable to me none the less. If this had been top notch I probably would have voted for it for best in show.

#6: One of my favorites in the contest. Really like the technical editing done and the trippy atmosphere made it really enjoyable for. Not sure what it was trying to do concept wise but I think it works fine as a visual/feel concept.

#75: Another one of my personal favorites in the contest, don't really have much to say here though.

#11: My runner-up for best action: Had some really nice sync moments and transitions. Might not be the strongest audio choice for shana though and a couple of choppy moments with overlays and pacing. Still had some nice effect work at points though and was enjoyable to watch overall.

#4: Another one of my favorite videos in the contest. Was well edited for the most part minus a few small areas.

#70: What was done with the gears and added animation was interesting and blended with the anime source really well. Not sure if it was supposed to have some meaning to it or if it was trying to just be artsy for the heck of it. Outside of the added animation though it only felt like a slightly above average flcl video.

#3: My donger. It has been raised.
