Ok so I finally got AnyDVD HD, and I've figured out that I can directly copy the .m2ts files from the directory after doing this, but what's the next step?
Are those the files I work with or is there a similar process of conversion and filtering to apply to these files? I've heard .m2ts can be unstable in Premiere (I'm working in Premiere Pro CS5.5).

You technically could work with them in Premiere, but the seek times are horrible. If you recontainer to MP4 it would fix that issue, but it will still not be an optimal choice. Personally I would say convert to lossless AVI, with recontainered MP4s being a functional backup if necessary.

I would recommend you also try m2ts video converter which is free to download trial software.website
