Origin of Adam's Song?

Postby y2kwizard » Mon Dec 30, 2002 2:07 pm

Hey all.

Please don't flame me, but there are actually Blink 182 songs that I like..EEK! But seriously, I was wondering about their "Adam's Song." Did they write it? It sounds like it's a poem they put to music...maybe a poem wrote by a kid named Adam...

Also...it kind of sounds like a suicide note. Does anyone know the origin of this song? Thanks a lot!

Apparently it was written after a friend's suicide.

The song's actually very ANTI-suicide if you give the entire song a listen. The "character" of the story begins as a very depressed person, but as he progresses and sees things as they are around him, he realizes that things really aren't so bad and he's got a lot to live for.

I know there was an incident a few years back where a young man committed suicide and left references to the Blink song; Mark and Tom seemd really upset over the whole thing, explaining that the kid didn't interpret the full meaning of the lyrics (really only taking the first verse, or so, and ignoring the rest). They don't want the song to be associated with death, but rather, overcoming those horrible ideas.

I heard that it was a tribute to the old drummer scott. But i could just as easily be mistaken.

Coolness. Thank you very much for the input. I will give the song another listen and see if I can see the positive aspect of it.

Blink writes all their own stuff. If you paid for an album it'd take you two seconds to look inside the ook and know that, plus you'd have all the lyrics. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but what I'm saying is if you like them maybe you should just buy their cd, it's not that expensive and you could benefit from it.

For future refrence:
(if you plan to buy) Adam's Song is on their CD "Enema of the State" it has the nurse on the cd cover.

and yes, they write everything themselves.
