AnimeNEXT 2013 AMV Contest

Postby Scintilla » Mon Jan 28, 2013 6:38 pm

(Edit, 5/6/13: Finalists announced here!)

Yes, we're back! Cyanna, Jefferson, and I had such a blast running last year's AnimeNEXT AMV Contest that we're doing it again in 2013. Being the largest independently-run anime convention in the New Jersey/New York metro area, AnimeNEXT is returning to the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ, for the weekend of June 7-9, 2013.

As of January 28, we are officially open for entries.

AnimeNEXT 2013 AMV Contest Rules - Entry Form

Please be sure to read the rules in their entirety and include a completed entry form with your submission. We received at least one video last year that we could not show because the creator never sent us an entry form (as well as at least one entry form for which the creator never sent us a video!).
Of particular interest, we still have no maximum length and we still have no hard-and-fast preset categories, so those of you with very long or hard-to-categorize videos may wish to give us a look.

Entries sent by post must be postmarked by APRIL 27 and received by MAY 1. Entries sent via FTP must be completely received by the end of APRIL 27.

So as I type this, you have a full three months to get your submissions in. Last year was a great contest and we're aiming to make this one even better, so we look forward to seeing your best!

Does anyone actually read these subject lines?

This is your just under THREE WEEKS reminder for this contest! Though we do have our first international entry, it's still anyone's game.

We received one entry from ZIP code 10956, sent by post, that consisted of an entry form but no disk containing the actual videos. If you're reading this, I tried contacting you by e-mail over three weeks ago but never heard back. Is there a different address I should use?

ONE WEEK REMAINING until the entry deadline! This is the last reminder I will post, I promise.
Also, today is the LAST DAY to get a guaranteed FTP account! If you intend to send us videos via FTP and have not requested an account yet, better let us know soon.

I have just sent out e-mails soon to those people who requested FTP accounts or sent us entry forms but either have not sent in their videos yet or still have outstanding issues with the ones they did send. (Please make sure e-mails from T_wolf1 [at] hotmail [dot] com and scintilla [at] aquilinestudios [dot] org are not getting flagged as junk!)

If you sent us an entry form and your ZIP code appears below, then we have not yet received your videos:

To the three people so far who have listed their videos in the Org's database as participating in the contest:

Checking the participation box DOES NOT actually enter you into the contest. (This goes for all contests, not just AnimeNEXT.)
You need to read the rules and fill in the entry form if you want to enter.

I'm mostly posting this here because two of the people to whom this applies did not list any contact information (I've already sent the third a PM on Hosatchel).

I will provide more information about those once we have figured out the playlists.

It might of been a bad idea to have entered two amvs into the same category. :uhoh:

I know we have an awful lot of rules, but nothing against that. :P

Also, we don't decide the categories until after deciding the finalists anyway. Though I am glad to report that, once again, we managed to fit every finalist into a category corresponding to one of the elements its creator indicated on the entry form.

The following is the schedule for the AMV screenings at AnimeNEXT 2013; it is my understanding that this may differ slightly from the printed pocket schedule, but be aware that what you see below is the correct version. If you're using Guidebook, it should be correct with all the most recent updates.

Contest screening, 7:30 - 9:30 P.M. in Main Events B (Ballroom)

Contest screening, 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. in Panel A and B (Ballroom)
Contest screening, 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. in Video 1 (Main)
Deadline for ballots is 3:00 P.M.
Winners played in Main Events after everyone is seated for the Masquerade

Overflow Playlists

Postby Scintilla » Sun Jun 02, 2013 9:41 pm

Finally, we have here the playlists for the two noncompeting/overflow screenings, video titles only (for editors who wish to keep it a secret which videos are theirs). There are fifteen videos that will be shown in both screenings; this is more than last year because we received fewer videos. If you do not see your video on this list, it either made finals or was disqualified, both of which I would have already informed you about via e-mail.

The playlists are in alphabetical order by video title. Thankfully, this arrangement does not result in any stretches with too much of any one animé. Also thankfully, no two noncompeting/overflow videos have the same name.
