The a-m-v.org awkward newbie phase

Post by Ileia » Tue Apr 30, 2013 1:15 pm

We were all the "awkward newbie" at one point. Anyone have any funny stories about when you first joined here? What embarrassing thing did you do?

For me, I didn't know how most of the internet worked. I got a computer so that I could make AMVs and a-m-v.org was my first experience with message boards of any sort. I scrolled to the bottom, saw users online, saw the private message option, and assumed it worked like a chatroom. So, I uh... sent PMs to a whole bunch of users with messages like "MY FAVORITE ANIME IS INUYASHA, WHAT'S YOURS?!" I recall only getting one response, from Willow, who was nice enough but clearly amused by it.

My third day on a-m-v.org I strongly implied that Mister Hatt was a troll.
It's pretty funny in retrospect because of all the help he's given me.

I originally signed up for this site (hence my early reg date) trying to look for hosting when I was getting kicked off my server. My profile originally said "Boo-urns".

Luckily, that happened 2 years later.

My string of embarrassing moments came much later after that... :uhoh:

I remember using the journals as chat rooms. >.>
Even while I was IMing the same people.

I avoided the forums for two years when I first joined the org, because I thought it was a chat room and was afraid of getting Internet Predatored.

I was incredibly full of derp. Like, so much derp it's painful to look at my first posts.

Beyond Neopets, I had never been on a forum before so I was totally lost about where to post and what to post. I would excuse my moronic answers with hyperactive excuses about eating lots of brownies and sugar. I posted a couple times asking for technical help but all of the answers I received went *whoooooosh* over my head so I wasted a bunch of people's time. >>

My shining moment was went I started "The Loser Awards" which was a contest for people that edit with WMM. Scintilla gave me a hard time about the fact that you can make good videos with WMM. Sadly, I was too retarded to make it clear that the whole 'loser' aspect was just a jab at whole "WMM is the worst EVAR" stigma. Then I felt sad about making Scintilla mad at me.

Also, the contest went nowhere :D

While the hyperactive retard in me was filtered out at a pretty decent rate, I think I managed to figure out how the forums work pretty quickly and that helped BIG TIME.

Also, I'm still retarded, just not hyperactive retarded. It's a different kind of retard. :dino:

I think I should have avoided the forums in the beginning, at least until I got the whole "social interaction with people over the internet" thing down. I was pretty impatient and demanding :uhoh:
