* IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - PLEASE READ BELOW *

Post by GloryQuestor » Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:15 pm

In the past few days, We have been made aware that the site has been hacked. While the database is intact, we do know that the hackers gained access to members' password information and it is possible that all of the passwords may have been compromised. Our crack team of site code monkeys has reviewed the code and changed it to make sure that it isn't exploited in the way it was, and that password information is no longer compromised.

Because of this issue, however, we will be forcing a reset of all users' passwords effective immediately, and we encourage you to change them for your protection. Also, to those that donated to the site and might be worried, our site does not store PayPal account information, so you do not need to take any action in that regard. In the meantime, our coding team will continue working to implement additional precautionary measures to prevent similar attacks in the future.

If you have any questions about the above, please direct them to either GloryQuestor or Kariudo, who will be happy to answer any concerns you might have regarding this issue.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled AnimeMusicVideos.Org, already in progress.

I wonder what a hacker could hope to get from hacking this site that is of value.... or why it would be a target in the first place. Maybe for a mailing list or something?
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Getting a list of usernames and passwords to then use on merchant websites and webmail providers so they can attempt to gain access to stored credit card data or other financial info.

That's sadly not a new story, after what happened to Sony and others the past few years. You have to always be careful about repeating passwords, especially on websites that keep information you want to remain secure. :|

In other words, if that's not clear enough: if you've used the same password on the .org as ANY other website or service you use, go change it there too, NOW.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

You probably should modify that important announcement on the front page, as it is no longer accurate to say things like "in the past few days" and "recently" and "we will be." To someone who is just logging in or visiting the site, they're going to see that and probably not pay much attention to the time stamp way down at the bottom.
