Newbie editor here, with a WIP of my first serious project. Pretty sure I meet all the requirements.

Video: Going On (direct link to the video file)
Category: Character Profile, Serious
Anime: Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise
Song: Going On
Artist: Gnarls Barkley
Creator: capnoblivious (sudo studios)

It's fairly close to completion, but there are one or two sections that I plan to re-work. Please ignore the subtitles; it's a placeholder shot until I can crop it from the BluRay. I'm interested in comments on both creative and technical aspects of the video.

Please PM me your opinion. Thank you very much!

EDIT: Added more info.

Hey Thanks for your opinion :D I'm glad you liked it
The ending scenes, I wanted to include that part because I wanted to show the cycle will repeat that the protagonist
In this amv I plan to do a remeke in 2013 (maybe) which includes the entire history of the series

ehi ehi i read your opinion

read the spoiler if you want :awesome:
Spoiler :
Ehi! Firstly thanks for the opinion, I appreciated it!
I would like reply about the “effort”: I worked hard on this video( I edited this in 2 months, all day but this is not very important) and used “random clips”(as you said) because i didn’t want to create a story, a context or a relationship between the characters. As I wrote in the description, this song is my favourite, i edited it in a “emotional” way. While I was editing i searched to convey what i feel when i listen to this song, so I aimed to the emotions, I wasn’t worried about it seemed “random”. Indeed when i wanted to make a sad clip i chose to put it in a good way, I repeat my target wasn’t not to create a story. As I hope you know, try to edit with a Oasis’s song is very difficult(particularly with this song), because their lyrics, or their musical rhythm are special, and not common. To solve this problem I aimed to transmit the power of the song, and sometimes i tried to follow the lyrics(as you said “Cannonball” ecc…ecc..). About the length of “Champagne Supernova” is 7:27 minutes not 9 minutes as you said, but it’s not important :D I don’t understand when you said “That's normally a death knell for AMV's, but Champagne Supernova also happens to be a major radio hit that everyone knows, so maybe it'll slide on that.“(e.g) I’ve never seen a video made with this song
Defeniteily I really enjoyed your critics(they were very helpful) I hope there are other times to talk with you, I decided to reply about your opinion only because I wanted to let you know which is the true concept of this video. I apologize you if I was impolite, thanks again!

I'm going to make about a dozen of romance amvs in the next few months, so I'd like as much criticism as I can take. Thank you very much in advance!

So basically, you were more focused on the song than on the animes. Fair enough. I think that might've come through more if the video more literally matched the lyrics at more places, and if a variety of wider-known animes were used. For example: suppose you see Bleach and Ouran High School Host Club members in the same video, but only during specific parts that fit them. The "where were you when we were getting high" line happens over Cowboy Bebop's Spike smoking.

It almost has to be that obvious, or the message gets lost; the viewer's natural tendency is to try and favor the visual over the sound, and think of the song as background music--soundtrack, really--unless it's blatantly otherwise.

My bad on the time of the song, too; I must've been thinking something else. *shrug* What I meant on the length is that, most of the time, when a song is longer than 7 minutes, the AMV gets really repetitive and hard to pay attention to (or, depending on the song, hard to sit through). I've been at enough Otakons to know the awkward feeling when the audience starts talking in the middle of a still-running video. It's rude as hell, but it happens every other year.

It really was a great sound editing job, and I don't doubt that it was difficult. Hence the high mark on Sound.
