Well yeah, considering it's a contest that isn't specifically limited to anime, it makes sense that would be the case since there unfortunately isn't a lot of contests that those videos can compete in.

AWA will get hundreds of videos because everyone sends everything to Expo.

That said, since AWA's VAT stuff isn't anime-only, I hope they do get plenty of other FMV entries.

EDIT - especially ponyvids, as I'm running blocks @ AAC that could always use more quality.

Expo was intended to be just that. "Send some videos and we'll show 'em off."
The awards were an after thought and seems to have just stuck. Personally I like the idea of a basic AMV video dump with the possibility of reward rather than an actual competition.
