Re: Another Anime Con 2012 Rules - Year of the Dragon

i was gonna enter until i saw this rule:
6. While editors can win multiple awards, videos are only eligible for one award. If a video wins Best in Show, it does not win the category.
don't agree with this. videos should be acknowledged for all achievements imo.

just my two cents tho.

The rule is modeled after every other con up here in the New England area. Now that you point it out, though, It's also a tad bit redundant to actually have it listed as a rule like that, because the method we use to determine best in show already takes care of the conflict.

That is to say, we don't have a separate section where people vote for best in show - we award it to the video with the highest vote total. We tried the separate segment for the first 3 years, but never got a significant enough response (most people left the space blank).

Honestly, why? If an editor makes multiple videos that earn a reward, why should s/he be limited to only one of them because "a different video in a different category won a better award. To me that is like telling Ford "Hey, we know you made two really good cars this year, but they both can't get a 5 star crash test rating, sorry."

You misunderstood. Each video can win up to one award. If an editor enters multiple videos those videos are each eligible for up to one award a piece.

Also, I like this rule. Awards should be spread out-- it's more fair to the editors and more interesting for the audience.

My two cents: I think this is an excellent rule. It gives different videos a chance to shine in different categories. Seeing the winners list as "this one video took 5 trophies" is annoying. Having one person sweep the winners circle is an automatic facepalm IMO.

EDIT: Also agreeing with Warlike Swans who beat me to the punch :-P

It's actually not being articulated correctly and really does need to be fixed (that bit of the rules hasn't been touched in 6 years). You can totally win 2 awards; Judge's choice (and if we ever institute an editor's choice or any technical awards in the future) can go to a video that won something else - just not best in show AND the category... because the way we determine Best in Show requires you to, in essence, win the category anyways. And we'd like to give something to the runner up instead of the dinky category award AND the massive bludgeoning device we have for best in show because it wouldn't just happen some of the time - it would happen every single time - by design.

You're confused. Read it all again. It doesn't say that at all.
