What really makes a good editor? Or a good AMV...

Post by DownerSyndrome » Fri Jun 15, 2012 9:16 pm

So, I've watched my fair share of good videos, but I'd like to check out some new ones. If you guys fee like it, please post videos that you find to be perfect examples of cuts and atmosphere and concept. Throw your favorite videos at me, ones from yourself if you feel it'd help, and especially ones from other editors. Much appreciated.

Well, if you look at my profile, you'll see a list of my favourite AMVs (I need to update that one of these days btw >.>),
but I highly recommend these:

or ones from myself, just look in my signature ;)

For me, the song is what makes a good AMV; or rather, where the editing is very in touch with the song.

Give the videos listed in my podcasts a view. I think they'll be the best examples I could come up with without posting a few hundred videos ^^()

Mostly all of these two editors' videos are epic in every way and should be watched multiple times.

I have to recommend these two:

Both have superb atmosphere and great concepts.

Rephrase the question.

What makes a good artist. Even though everyone here is re-editing everything video and audio, it's no different than sitting in front of a canvas you did not manufacture with pigment you didn't mine and brushes you did not make.

But I digress.

You ask, what makes a good editor?
The same stuff that makes a good artist.
Risk. Skill. Luck. Those elusive elements are there.
But one common factor remains true.

The best artists keep doing what they feel is right, true and fulfilling.
Everyone around them just has to figure out what the artist is doing and enjoy it.

I know it reads like you have to have a bulletproof ego but that's not true. The good artists also know when to subdue themselves and get with "the trend" to survive and build the resume. The (living) artists with long careers have the savvy to know when it's time to break "the trend".

Rumors of my demise in that Tokamak fusion reactor accident with Andy Warhol and Beethoven were pumped up by TMZ and FOX for extra airtime.
