Sure, I'll give it a once over.

This is my second AMV myself, so we're both relatively amateurs. I'll give you an opinion once I watch it.

I can tell you had a clear goal in mind, but there are some issues in the execution. I'm not sure how I feel about having quotes from the show in the video because that makes it feel more like a movie trailer. Regardless, the music was much too loud to hear what they were even saying. I'm going to guess you letter boxed your video for the purpose of the subtitles right? I think I would prefer a full screen video and no subtitles. Also, you didn't subtitle all the audible dialogue either. And as you mentioned, the source quality is lacking.

I think the jumps to black are appropriate for the parts of the song that fade, but I think the darkness should fade with it. For much of the fight, the transitions to black are more abrupt and don't fade with the music, which I think would have helped a lot.

I would have to give the video a 5/10. I can see where you're trying to go but there are many decisions made that don't do your vision justice. I think there are areas of mass improvement you can make. If you put the time in, you could possibly make this really great if you wanted.

Subtitles are there because the original voices are in japanese, and i don't know if by ''letter boxed'' you mean the black stripes up and down, but it was done to cover the watermarks and original subtitles.

What you mean?
Anyways, lets pass to your video! :)

The transitions in the beginning could have a nice gradient backround or a texture just to make it nicer, but it's nice.
Never seen Gurren Lagann so i don't know the story, but i liked the AMV because it matches with song; it's colorfull and the changement of the clips matches with the beat.
Overall; 8/10 because there aren't any particular effect (how i like) but i don't know the anime so i don't know what you wanted to show.
Nice. (: :up:

Around 1:30 and onward, you dip to black at certain parts of the music. If you notice, it's a very abrupt transition. I was trying to say you should lengthen the transition so that it appears to fade to black, as oppose to just, BLACK all of a sudden, see what I'm saying?

I see, problem is that that part of the clip was too short by itself, that's why. :oops:

This is my first btw;

You change the rate at which the footage plays. He's saying you could feasibly slow it down a bit to appropriately match the transition time
