Banding is usually (from my experience) caused by picking wrong FPS or slowing down footage and not disabling resampling. Adding filters isn't really going to do it justice.

Just my inner self showing on the outside as well~

Group G videos are all up.

While attempting to flatter the coordinator doesn't get you any extra votes, it sure does create some lulz.

Who... who did this... I suspect one of the male editors of my Group, right? As a policeman, it is my duty to find that brat. Oh when i get him... what vile intentions, jeez!

Finally some time to review videos! :3

Group G

AnimAe (Shine Together): Adequete video. Did a lot of things right, but I felt like the scenery used didn't match the music's pacing well.

In the Valley of the shadow of Death: The opening fell flat as a joke to me personally. Editing past that was pretty nice, but I don't think the multi-source thing worked that well. Hard to find a coherent concept in there. Oh, and the news/subtitles just weren't my thing. But it WAS unique, which is something that I did like.

JdLord1: I think the editing needed some work with the cuts. I liked the timer thing (well executed), but the music/video just didn't meld well together. Felt like one really long scene edited to the music.

Mally: I liked this one. The zooms were a tad much at times, but I understand the theme/concept of the video and the editing supported it. The chourus fell a little flat though.

Nelhtarion: Pretty nice. The atmopshere/mood in this one felt like it belonged with the music, but the concept was lost to me. I also don't understand the sources chosen. It seemed like a random assortment of anime.

Sage: Good setup and solid editing. The action was a tad random at times, but I understand what the video was going for and it came across well.

siny: We HAVE A WINNER. Solid work from start to finish. Great use with the audio manipulation, creation of a band for the anime and the inspiration that flowed between them all. Didn't care for the multi screen effect though. Just a minor complaint though.

Downloading right now, 102 of the 466mb are of my video (found the solution thanks to the .org's technical support)

Just a thing, I forgot to put my name in the video's title... though I would love to have an 8-words username :P The "Valley" video is mine, so, thank you Code for putting me on the top 4, I was just going for lyrical sync and inside jokes :D

now, to watch the other 7 entries...

Group G-1

My condolences to group G. Reviews here are pretty sparse, but there's not much I can say. The song was annoying, and the videos couldn't really help it.

[AnimAe] Shine Together

Well done. Theme was well built against the song.

[Animated] In the Valley of the Shadow of Death

In-jokes were amusing, and helped distract from the song itself, but unfortunately don't really help make the video.

[jd_lord1] 2Q12

Pretty well done. Nice match for the song. However the editing felt off-target; just enough to be noticeable, but not enough that I can really explain what felt wrong.

[Mally] Umbreblaah

Felt way too random. Tons of quick cuts that didn't feel right, like it was forcing beat sync for no reason other than beat sync; felt largely unlinked from the video itself. Thematic matching was weak.

[Nelhtarion] illusion

Completely random? Felt like there was no connection between the song and the video.

[SagexAMV] Umbrella Phone

Interesting take. The basic idea felt like it could have really worked, but the execution felt limited and too simplistic.

[siny] Starish Umbrella

Poor lip sync. Interesting use of audio effects for the headphones, though it felt like there was something missing; like it didn't properly build the foundation for separating what was outside the 'video' from what was inside the 'video'.

Overall, decent.

Top picks:
[AnimAe] Shine Together
[siny] Starish Umbrella
[SagexAMV] Umbrella Phone
[jd_lord1] 2Q12

Notes: Was very sick of this song by the end, and I get the feeling the editors weren't too happy with it either (or maybe it's just me projecting). Doesn't seem like an easy song to edit to, and even the better videos were kinda 'meh'.

Group F-1

[Chained(E)Studio] MasTweeen

Unusual choice of video source for this type of music. Fun.

Beat sync felt just a tiny bit off in some areas (early segments, up to maybe 0:25; ~0:55-1:04).

CRF 20 with 16 bframes weakens video quality a bit.

Overall, enjoyable, though it never reached an intensity to really match the music source.

[Davis 51] Switchblade Pocket Comb

Incomplete. However, since what was done was all contiguous, reviewing based on that.

Nice match with intro. Good beat sync, good flow. Generally maintained an intensity to match the music.

Couple scenes with the green guy felt sloppy.

Overall, pretty well done. Pity it wasn't finished.

[Elerye] Slave + Death

Takes work to get a slow-moving anime like Another up to the pace of the song, but did pretty well there (though there were places where it seemed to slip a bit). Nice use of transition effects helped.

Made good use of the dark tone of the music. Good story structure.

[milkorlife] Quaint

Beat sync feels way off.

A feeling of... blandness. The dark and harsh tone of the music seems wasted on scenes of random wandering around town and eating dinner and such.

Audio edit at 1:06 felt awkward.

Generally weak.

[Mkid] The Quickening

Two shots of the zombie biting the arm at the same angle in the first few seconds. Felt sloppy.

Nice framing effects around ~0:42+; probably could have used that a bit more.

Ending audio cuts felt a bit sloppy.

Generally pretty decent.

[Shin] Raging Heart

Very strong sync match. Maintained a constant energy on par with the song.

Some strange audio flub around 0:58.

Good dynamic flow. Movement and direction constantly challenging each other, as appropriate for this type of video.

Group H-1

[irriadin] Farewell To Tomorrow

Heh, easy match for the tone of the song. The general feel of the music goes well with K-On, though the lyrics are a slightly weaker match.

Bubbly effects went well with the mood.

"Playing" sync (characters playing instruments along with the music) had some weaknesses, especially with the sped-up footage, but generally worked ok.

General direction/flow was a little hit-and-miss.

[jade_eyed_angel] After Life

Basic concept worked well, but felt slightly stretched from combining two sources (though the visual design let them mix togther well). Was confused if there was an intent to directly link the characters of the two series.

Piano imagery felt wrong, given the instruments used in the song.

Thematics were generally pretty good, though the combat scenes usually felt a bit out of place.

[Kireblue] A Single Rose

Weak thematic matching. Too much that was just story setup from the anime, but didn't really contribute to the video.

[MimS] Bound A sentimental slice of life video

Basic idea is nice. Pretty good character matching. Weakness in scene selections. Good beat sync. Abrupt ending.

Slight audio skip/cut at 1:10.

[VivifxAMV] What You Know

Good beat sync. Scene selections good, though possibly a bit too much focus on the closeups on people's eyes.

A couple lip sync issues.

Audio skip at 1:40.

Stronger thematic matching in the first half. Second half started having issues with too many moving cuts, and weaker directional flow.

[xDreww] Sweet Beginning

Noticeable audio cut at 0:18 (melody continued, but bass changed). Couple lip sync issues.

Thematic matching felt a bit weak in the first half.

Top picks:
[irriadin] Farewell To Tomorrow
[MimS] Bound A sentimental slice of life video
[jade_eyed_angel] After Life
[VivifxAMV] What You Know

Notes: Took a bit of pondering to drop "Sweet Beginning" from my top picks. All of the videos are pretty good, but they also all have their fair share of weaknesses, generally mood and tone and execution of thematic intent.

This song draws in videos that are more heavily invested in the artistic side, so there's a *lot* of subjectiveness involved. I'm seeing fewer technical problems than some of the earlier videos, so it's taking more work to translate why I "like" or "dislike" a video into meaningful words. Feels like I'm not doing quite as well as I'd like.

lol, Kisanzi and I caught it too. There is a change in tempo, it's subtle but it's there.

Nice try though, MimS.
