When I selected the judges, I chose judges who would be honest, not rate of a scale from awesome - less awesome.

Considering only myself and Masterzero8 commented about the judges' comments, I'm guessing that we're the 'people' that are having problems taking the criticism that lead to this decision... I thought it was a good idea to post comments publicly because we could see good points and points for improvements in our videos plus others' videos, and observers could also see the judges' thoughts. Yeah, I did want to justify the apparently elusive storyline, but hopefully THAT came across as discussing it, rather than complaining about it.

Isn't the point of this thread to discuss the results? Have I done something wrong?

Anyway, please reconsider posting comments with results? Much more useful for everyone involved/observing. |:>

No, I received private messages on the matter also but I didn't want to single people out by naming names. And it wasn't just from people in the contest or concerning the judges being "mean." I find that shining a spotlight on certain people in a public area to be rude.

You didn't do anything wrong. It's become quite common that I see creators attempting to justify their reasons after a video is released. While I don't approve of attempting to justify I am always up for a good discussion. Either way, my personal opinion doesn't matter.

What was wrong was the spiral of nonsense about proper criticism that was released after the comments were posted. That was not a debate. That was a complaint-fest.

Anyway, people, just remember : what do you expect from this contest?
I'm saying this 'cause 1st Quickening, between only French people, allowed unknown people to meet more known ones. This is how I met Luna (for those who know her), she's now one of my best friends IRL (our city are close) and without Quickening, I don't think she could have taken part in 1st Empty Mosaic MEP (e-penis right now). Well I mean mostly is that there are unknown editors like MZ8 who participate in this contest, so, yes, being this there is judgement but that's not the most important part of it, it's also a way to put light on other editors. Somehow, it's a good thing that MZ8 "complained" or "opened a debate", at least now we noticed him and I'm pretty sure all os us will pay more attention to his next work ;)

P.S : Knowing Dn@ personally, you're saying judges are harsh but I'm pretty sure he already censored his stuff  (jk)

oh :( I kinda liked reading the judge's comments about other videos as well ;w; But I'll definitely pm you.
Thing is that without comments, people can be like : why did that win, why is it better than mine :/ I've seen that happen before ...
Now I can't wait for group D results xD

meleechampion wrote:Ok, I'm in agreement for the most part because random people on the internet can, and will, shit on your videos all day. You gotta have thick skin, but seriously? Real talk? Saying something like "I can't find any redeeming quality in this even if I try" is not criticism. That, my friends, is an insult. I simply expect better from an "org supported contest" because really? That is not constructive. That is not helping, that is hurting. Lines like this have no place in a judge's commentary.

Yeah, I'll throw a fit about one line.

I won't be a pussy and I'll admit: that comment was mine. I don't think I should stay unnamed for that line, 'cause it was admittedly awful from me, and I should be somehow punished I guess, even if the punishment is just knowing it was me.
Now, I was sleeping when this was posted, so I don't know how comments were presented and all.
From the start, I wasn't sure if the comments would be made public or not, but regardless, yes, I don't think I have any excuses for that one line. It's just that, I watched the video, I tried to think of some positive aspect, and I couldn't really come up with anything, so I wrote it. Possibly in the harshest way I could have put down what I meant. I guess I was brutally honest there. I also didn't know it was their first video, though...
Although, to begin with, I didn't think we were supposed to give out constructive criticism. I thought I should have just explained my reasoning to why I put a video in a certain rank in my list, with a quick one/two lines comment and nothing more. If I had to actually give out a real opinion, I obviously would write it out in an entirely different manner.
Last but not least, my apologize goes to masterzero. That comment was out of place no matter what it was meant to be. I am truly sorry.

Well Mirko, knowing you, you happen to be the one that knows the most about audiovisual quality, so... I think our friend was just unlucky not expecting this. I'm on your side though and well done admitting what you said.

Now... could you pleeease bring back all this brutal commenting? :D

That single line was the only brutal thing in the whole comments list. You didn't miss a lot, I don't think. xD

Kudos, Mirko. You didn't have to do that.

Agreed. It's just when the negativity is unanimous, comments being stacked, all being so negative, this being the last comment... I dunno, there was just something admittedly "worse" about it.

NOW, I completely understand Yue not wanting to have to defend herself/her judges/their decisions, and understand her taking action by "limiting the ammo" and withholding comments. This is not her, this is on you people! Quit yer bitchin! HOWEVER, I think the point has already been made that commentary is FUN, it encourages discussion, (hopefully people can figure out how to do so without getting their panties in a twist) and the criticism that IS there (not saying it's required) helps not only each individual better themselves, but we all can learn the judges' likes/dislikes (for TACTICS) and stuff. So come on. :D

One last plead, lets see some commentary. Everyone put your grownup pants on, and lets be civilized. Everything will work out. :D

I agree. The judges are pretty aware of how to word their comments now. They can be mean, but in a constructive way!

Everyone wins!

Aw... hugs all around for Mirko! :)

It's really interesting to hear that you didn't know it was going to be made public... and if you'd known it was public, then you'd have written it in a different way...

...sounds like there's a good chance that judges' feedback won't be so inflammatory in the future? |:>

Or can judges' comments be PM'd to anyone, regardless of whether they participate, if you're still strongly against public discussion, Yue?

No, what I meant with "If I had to actually give out a real opinion, I obviously would write it out in an entirely different manner" is that actual opinions (ones that are meant to give thorough feedback and suggestions for improvements) are another thing altogether to what these comments are supposed to be.
I'm taking these judges comments as "these reasons such and such are why this video is in this place," with no real need to give out suggestions to the editor.
That said, it's not an excuse for me to be an ass.
