Drama of the positive variety -- inspirational, overcoming, life-affirming, what have you. "Defying Gravity" from 2010 is a good example. Or last year's "Son of Man". Or anything recced in this thread.

We currently have 78 videos, but...
  • One was not uploaded before the deadline (the editor originally gave me direct download links from the Org, then never replied to my e-mail giving him the FTP info)
  • One was uploaded on time but failed to meet minimum resolution and had what looked like encoding errors
  • One was DQed for gore (and one more may suffer the same fate -- I asked for a censored version but the editor never replied)
  • That total doesn't include any videos that may have come in yesterday, or that may arrive this week, via the post office -- I am expecting at least two more

Given your earlier category total numbers, 78 seems pretty good.

Just got back from my last trip to the post office. Not counting the one video that was DQed already for gore and the one video that was entered as noncompeting, the final total count is 80 videos that will go into the prescreening. The total run time is in the vicinity of 4.5 hours.

Note that the prescreeners may still disqualify additional videos for content or other rule violations; we have identified two videos in particular as questionable cases. (The creators were informed of this well in advance in case they wanted to send censored versions.)

Also, the amount of videos we received means that at the convention, most of the videos that do not make finals will only be able to be screened at one of the two overflow screenings. If we are able to show some at both, priority will be given to those videos whose creators indicated they would be in attendance at the convention.

80 videos isn't a bad amount. :) Good luck everyone!

My congratulations to all of the finalists, as we've got a great field this year and you should be proud of yourselves. Between the quality of the videos and the fact that the screenings will be in great rooms at great timeslots (which I'll be able to say more about as we get closer to the con), I'm really excited for making this happen at the convention.

Those videos that did not make finals but were not disqualified will still be shown in at least one of the two overflow/noncompeting screenings (yes, we did receive one video entered as noncompeting). I will provide more information about those once we have figured out the playlists.

Only three weeks left until the con!
