The worst piece of advice you've gotten about AMV making

Post by tuxedomarty » Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:30 am

There's nothing wrong with getting advice, but some of the advice we get is just not good at all. For me, the worst piece of advice I ever got was : Don't use a song unless it's well-known *scoffs* Seriously? What kind of logic is that? I think it's great to use lesser known and obscure songs in AMVs! It will introduce them to a new generation and new audiences!!
I can't stand weeaboos and people who keep badmouthing dubbed anime and say it sucks.

"oh look, another instrumental amv with overused transitions with no point to it. Amazing stuff!"

:truestory:

Another one was that my AMVs are shit and that I should stop making them...

Honestly, some people are really harsh in their comments. When I try to say something bad about a video, I always say something good about it. Or if I really don't like it, I don't comment.
I don't like when people are harsh and rude.
I'm always honest, I say what's in my mind, but there's a limit.
Another thing I don't like is when people put a dislike only for bitching... Because they're jealous or they simply don't like you.
Where are we going to go when maturity of some people is so low?
Luckyly, I don't care about others and I usually only care about MY opinion or my friend's opinions. But some people aren't like me and it's not nice when other people try to put them down.
I'd like to tell them to grow up.

"don't use WMM, use a REAL program"

it's not the program, it's what YOU can do with it.

"Make vids for yourself and screw what anyone else says."

&

"If you don't want your vids to be torn apart, then stop sharing them in a public venue!"

Either of those tips is going to lead to a disenchanted newb, who might have been a great addition to the community had s/he stuck around long enough. I wish people would compromise and give something in between. Like: "Make vids for yourself, but don't share them until you've grown a backbone strong enough to shrug off poorly written flames from morons who honestly think they're giving constructive criticism."

And one tip I continue to see that really annoys me:

"Stick to the tube until you stop sucking so badly."

Half the good editors I've known over the years started by posting the equivalent of linkinballZ vids to the org. How they can say this to others without choking to death on their own hypocrisy is beyond me.
