It's all there under Rule #19, "Submitting Online".
So, my browser-plugin kept loading the pages of the PDF with the rules on them backwards and started at the top of the bottom page... it honestly looked like there were only 10 rules.

Re: AnimeNEXT 2012 AMV Contest (Now open for entries)

Top post has been updated. Rules are approved, contest is officially open.

As to what prompted the aspect ratio rule change: When I originally drafted the rules, I had been working under the assumption (based on information from the January staff meeting) that no room playing the AMVs would have a high-definition projector. However, at the March staff meeting on Sunday, I discovered that BOTH rooms playing the contest screenings will in fact have HD projectors and wide screens... but, that doesn't change the fact that the rooms playing the overflow blocks will still have the standard kind. The projectors for the Main Events room where the winners will be announced are also 4:3.

So since you obviously can't know in advance whether or not your video will make the finals, it didn't make sense anymore for me to require that MPEG submissions be one DAR or the other. So to maintain maximum fidelity, just encode for whatever DAR makes the most sense for your particular video. I will handle any conversions that may prove necessary.

Thanks for your patience. If anyone who already sent in videos wishes to re-submit (well, this is why I said the rules were tentative), just shoot us an e-mail at amv@animenext.org and I can have your FTP account re-activated.

Thread title updated to reflect the fact that, as I type this, there remains only ONE MONTH until the entry deadline.
We currently have received a total of 7 videos... which means that if you act fast, you could still be a winner!

Re: AnimeNEXT 2012 AMV Contest (Two Weeks Left!)

Post by Scintilla » Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:25 pm

I thought I should pop in to remind everyone that if you intend to enter the AnimeNEXT 2012 AMV Contest via online submission, please e-mail amv@animenext.org to request an FTP account by APRIL 29, as we cannot guarantee FTP accounts past that date. (This has always been stated in the rules file, but I realized it was not mentioned in my original post.)
Of course, your entries do not actually have to be uploaded until May 5.

Also of course, if you are submitting by post, the above does not apply to you, and you just need to get your entry postmarked by May 5.

I'm not too familiar with the FTP process, but is there a size limit? I don't plan on going over 2 GB but I'm not sure if this would be unreasonable...

No size limit, though if it looks like you're going to surpass 2 GB, you may want to split it into two separate files. The biggest we've received so far was 1.63 GB, and we could handle that with no problem.

Only one week left before the deadline as I type this. I promise this will be the last time I bump the thread before the deadline (though of course I will still post to answer questions, etc.).

In case anyone was wondering, here's how many videos we've received so far flagged with each of the categorization elements. Remember that each entry is flagged with two to four of these, so the total number of entries cannot be derived from these stats alone; I will however say that we do have enough entries to fill the contest block even if no one else enters at this point:

Action - 10
Artistic - 10
Character Profile - 9
Comedy - 5
Dance - 5
Drama - 17
Fun - 9
Horror - 1
Romance - 6
Segmented - 0
Sentimental - 4
Trailer/Parody - 3
Uplifting - 5

Keep in mind that the finalists will be selected without any regard to categorization, and there are varying degrees of overlap among the genres, so the genres with the most videos fitting them may not necessarily equate to the final categories.

I will be sending out e-mails at some point to: 1) those people who have requested FTP accounts but not sent in their entry forms, and 2) those people who have sent in their entry forms but have not uploaded the actual videos.
