Re: Sakura-Con 2012 Contest: FINALISTS RELEASED
This is the 2nd year in a row I haven't made it to the finals. But if editing teaches us anything, it teaches us to accept our failures, as well as our successes, with quiet dignity and grace.

I made it in again this year I must be doing something right. Also, I'm glad they didn't call offbeat comedy, it means mine has a chance.

Is comedy not listed or is that just the parody section?

Looks like the closest thing to it this year.Sephiroth wrote:Is comedy not listed or is that just the parody section?

Re: Sakura-Con 2012 Contest: FINALISTS RELEASED
I'm assuming comedy didn't get many submission, seems like a recent trend. Comedy overall for AMVs hasn't been bad, but just a select few have been making them, making the submission count very low.

Re: Sakura-Con 2012 Contest: FINALISTS RELEASED
Comedy and parody had a lot of overflow, ans Parody scored higher. When overflow top 6 from Parody was removed from comedy, it was below the top 5 categories

Also, when all the cuts were made, no video in the finals had under a 4 average score out of 5

Umm....what? Perhaps you could rephrase that, because it did not make any sense...Seijin_Dinger wrote:When overflow top 6 from Parody was removed from comedy, it was below the top 5 categories

Re: Sakura-Con 2012 Contest: FINALISTS RELEASED
i think he's saying that the top 6 videos in parody were also considered comedy (thus listed in the category) so after removing those from the comedy category, comedy wasn't in the top 5 cats to be shown at the finals.
Could be wrong though.

Re: Sakura-Con 2012 Contest: FINALISTS RELEASED
Actually thats what I am saying, and based on average scores Comedy was not in the top 5 of the possible categories.
I think I might have still ended up cutting strong videos in 1 category for weaker ones in another to keep categories balanced and within a specified run time, but this year that wasnt as harsh like previous years where sometimes I would cut say a high scoring action or drama for a low (average of 2 or lower) comedy and stuff like that.
It just seemed a lot more balanced of a contest with the finalists this year with maybe 1 or 2 videos that may seem out of place due to scores between categories they were submitted to.
