AICon 2012 AMV competition (deadline 10th March)

Post by blah13 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 1:18 am

Last year for the first time in Anime Island Convention history the local entries trounced the rest of the world. This year it's the rest of the world's turn to fight back. Always get a great response on here and can't wait to see what gets entered.

AMV Competition Rules:

AMVs must not have been submitted to AICon AMV competitions in previous years and no videos premiered prior to March 1, 2011 are eligible to compete.
Video footage should be mostly derived from anime, manga, or video games. Any non-anime footage must not exceed more than 25% of the total video length.
Any number of submissions per person or group will be accepted. However, in the interests of fairness and diversity, a single editor will not be eligible to have more than 3 of their AMVs screened in the competition. Each person who contributed to the assembling of the AMV must be listed in the submission.
AMVs must not have an intro or credits. AICon will introduce your entry for you at the convention.
No unneeded text, logos, or any other identifiable marking are to be found within the video itself. This includes subtitles, DivX or Cartoon Network logos, etc. Text you inserted yourself for the purpose of furthering the video concept or story is allowed, subject to final approval by the AMV Coordinator.
There is no maximum length for an entry to be accepted, however AMVs exceeding 6 minutes in length may not be eligible for screening subject to time constraints.
You may submit AMVs that contain concepts/footage that are suitable for an audience above 18 years of age, however inclusion of such content may affect both its ability to be screened at AICon and its ability to be judged in some categories. Please keep in mind that the AMV screening sessions shall advise an equivalent content to the OFLC M15+ rating.
All submission media (CDs or DVDs, etc.) become the property of AICon once received and will not be returned to the creator(s) at any time. We advise that creators keep back-up versions of their work.
This competition is open internationally. Participants do not have to attend the convention in order to compete and/or win. Prizes will be not however be mailed out. Prizes will be presented at the AMV judging or the closing cerimony on sunday evening. Certificates maybe mailed out although this is up to the descretion of the organiser.
Any person who has authority to determine the outcome of a competition is inelligable to enter the competition. These are Judges, MCs, AMV Coordinator(s) & Assistants of the AMV Coordinator, and AICon committee members
This rule does not preclude these persons from providing videos to the convention for exhibition purposes only.
AMVs may be rejected for any reason, at the discretion of the AMV coordinator. Such reasons include, but are not limited to, the inclusion of discriminatory and/or offensive material. Not all submissions may be shown. If your AMV is rejected, AICon AMV competition organisers may attempt to contact you to discuss possible edits or alterations that would make it acceptable.
Due to time constraints, it will not be possible to screen every AMV entered into the competition. AICon reserves the right to not screen an entry for any reason.
You must submit videos that only you yourself or your group created. Submitting someone else's video or impersonating someone will mean your immediate disqualification from the AMV competition and your referral to the AICon organisers for disciplinary action.
These rules are subject to change without notice. The most current version shall be maintained on the official AICon website.

Format Guidelines
Submissions must be in digital format only (no VHS submissions will be accepted). The formats below will be accepted, and we prefer that you encode them in either MPG, AVI, MKV, MP4 or OGM containers only:

DivX, XviD, DV-AVI
MPEG1, MPEG2
x.264

Other formats may be accepted based upon the equipment made available for screening at the convention, however no assurances are made that we can utilise a codec other than those listed. AICon takes no responsibility for being physically unable to screen an AMV.
Submissions can be in CD or DVD and mailed to the organisers, or submitted online by providing a link to the file in an email to digivisipop@gmail.com Please note that you must not author the discs (i.e. not make them playable on a DVD or VCD player) and provide them only as plain data. We may be playing from computers, connected to sound systems and projectors or need to copy them to alternative media to facilitate screening at the convention.

Please send the best quality possible (i.e. video should typically be 640x480 or higher). This is not a specific requirement for videos and your entry won't necessarily be disqualified for poor quality, however overall audio and video quality will impact the judges’ decisions in the end.
Multiple submissions may share the same media, but should as far as possible be separately accessible. This means arranging different video submissions in separate directories/folders and having clear names of files matching your submission form details.
Online submissions should be made into a zip file, both for smaller sizes and easier file management. Such submissions should be uploaded to a file sharing website and a link sent to the AMV coordinator via the online submission form.

Submission Guidelines

Please make sure that all your submission media are clearly labelled. Also include the following details (either as a text file in your submission media or as a printed copy or both) for each of your entries (in the zip file if submitting online).

Legal Name(s) of the AMV Creator(s)
Preferred Name(s) or Nickname(s) of the AMV Creator(s)
Contact email address
Full International Mailing address
AMV title
Music title and artist
Source Anime(s)/Game(s)
If you believe you qualify for the New to AMVs category (checks will be made).

It is recommended that you email the AMV coordinator that you have sent your submission by mail, so that we know to expect it from you soon. Also we would appreciate it if you tell us if you're attending AICon or if you have a proxy for you there, so that in the event that your video wins, we can have someone pick up the prize.

Submissions must be received by 11:59 PM March 10th, 2012 (not just postmarked but physically in our hands). This date is subject to change. If this is to occur and would shorten the competition deadline, at least two weeks notice before the closure of the competition will be given on the AICon website (http://www.aicon.org.au). Entries may be made by post to:

AMV Competition C/O Ben Holton
7 Kullindi crt Bellerive
7018
Tasmania
AUSTRALIA

For more information, to request another method of submission, or to make any other enquiries, please contact the AMV Coordinator at digivisipop@gmail.com

yep, that's fine. I'll accept any online source for download as long as I don't have to pay or signup for anything. As I'm a member here already, ideal place really.

A few good entries so far, but this competition is wide open. Enter now and you could still win, and most likely get your video shown to a few hundred people.

Last day for entries, get in and give yourself a chance to win, especially if you have any AMV's set to anything apocalyptic as I only have 1 AMV in theme. Don't let them win by default.

Thank you all for the massive amount of entries we got this year. we actually had so many that I decided to award a few extra categories just because there was so much quality that it needed recognising.

The Winners Were:
Action: [madaraxD] with "A typical fighting game"
Drama: Draw between Liz Franklin with "Always Ryoko" and EimiJ7 with "I'm home"
Fan Favourite and Comedy: l33tmeatwad with "Clubbin with Lupin"
Technical: l33tmeatwad with "What the hell"
Theme: Drew Brisco with "Flying Saucers from outer space"
Overall: Draw between l33tmeatwad with "What the hell" and Liz Franklin/Sarah Clarke with "Daytime TV"

Congratulations to all the winners and creators that entered, the fact there were 2 draws should speak volumes of the amount of quality AMVs we got

I was just really impressed with how clean it was and how well it portrayed the feelings you were trying to get across. The timing of your picture changes and transitions were great.
