What does this need?

Post by Mol » Thu Jan 19, 2012 5:25 pm

So i have those steins;gate bds and was wondering if they need other cleaning than maybe debanding and maybe derainbow (saw it in one specific dark scene only)
It will be good to know since im turning it into lags so i can clean them btw.
Some screenies

Looks pretty good to me. The less filtering the better.
If you only saw rainbowing in one scene, then maybe consider just de-rainbowing that one scene. Or maybe you dont even need to use that scene, in which case you could skip it altogether.

Okay, i will keep that in mind. I looked up in google what banding is and it seems to be it, not rainbowing D:. Thankies.

You are filtering a bluray that has no obvious aliasing or gradation problems. Doesn't need filtering unless you're a good enough encoder to not ask this.

Dude, have you not seen the Stein's Gate BDs? It's fucking banding PALACE. Like, rainbow banding. It wasn't just crunhylol's fault if their stream was awful.

Soo should i use something more than simply gradfun2db ? i used value of 3 already , seems to have helped alot, but there is slightly noticeable banding in "small" areas (for example part of clothes)

Don't use gradfun2db. And not with that strong of a value. You're killing detail.
Get the dither package and use gradfun3. Follow the manual to learn how to tweak the parameters. Also, do use it only in the scenes that do need the debanding, with a filter like strange. Another thing you can do to help is adding static grain (not much, just a tidbit), which helps hiding part of the banding, makes the picture look more detailed (keyword being look: it's not more detailed, just feels so while watching) and helps out preserving gradients in the final encode stage with 8bit encoding.

Mmkay, then i guess i will clean it when i get overall scratch of my prj to not waste time (since im not sure what i i will be using of what i i'm cutting via vdub lol,it would be simpler if premiere handled m2ts in avs form but it isn't too stable with that D:) , thanks for suggestion.

So i finally got around to read gradfun documentation , but i'm not sure about what should be interested in
thr=strength
elast=blur(attenuation?) thr over image.Should i use this or no? Probably useful if it looks over-filtered?
mask=not needed?
thr_det=even more detail
smode=2, should i be interested in value 3 ? I wonder how it works.
wmin=1?
subspl=default
lsb=true?
lsb_in=true?
