JCAs 2012 - Results are OUT! [on page 9~]

Postby Nya-chan Production » Wed Dec 28, 2011 3:15 pm

So once again it's that time of the year and VCAs are here. And as all of you know, it indeed is time to run JCAs along as well.

Results are out HERE!

This year we have a little more time again, so here's a timeline!

up to Jan 22: Nominating and voting judges
Jan 22 - Feb 4: Contacting judges, getting them together and preparing for the stuff
Feb 5 - Feb 11: Semifinal voting, eliminating videos and adding judge's choices
Feb 12 - Feb 18: Final voting

Feb 19 (or 22) (or later): Announcing the winners

History:
JCAs 2008
JCAs 2009
JCAs 2010
JCAs 2011

More global info:
There are no other prizes other than bragging rights (as far as I know). Well, maybe except a shiny place on JCAs auto-queue and being listed in the JCAs winner list available from the main page for some time ;>
Any and all problems with international drama is up to readers and voters. Do enjoy.

More info about individual stages:

Voting judges:
Any member (yes, any, including me, etc.) has three votes, equal in power, which s/he can write here in this thread or to my PM. Self-nominations are forbidden.
Any member can opt-out of the judging duty now - in that case any votes for him/her are nullified and the members who voted for them can vote for someone else.
NEW: Feel free to spread the word and self-promote if you feel like it. The participation of countries like Russia or France is up to their activity here ;x

Contacting judges:
I will try to contact the six judges. These will not necessarily be the ones with the most votes, but I'll try to listen to the voice of people :> In case any of the contacted judges refuses to judge in this event I'll contact the sixth, seventh, etc. on the list and/or chosen by me.
If I can't get six judges together from the list (improbable, but it can happen) I'll contact some people on my own and ask them if they want to judge.
I'll join the judges as the seventh judge.

Semifinal voting:
Every judge watches the VCAs semifinalists videos and then he or she can pick up to three videos from the semifinalist list in VCAs AND one video that's not in the list. The videos from all the judges make up the final voting list. Judges can pick their own videos if they see it as necessary.

Final voting:
Every judge rates the chosen finalists from 1 to [number of videos in the category], where the 1 stands for the weakest video. The points will be added up and the video with the highest number of points wins the category in these JCAs. Judges are not allowed to vote in the categories that include their own videos or themselves.

Winner announcement:
Will be done in this thread.

The times and rules can change at any time.

Any questions are welcome!

List of our judges:
CodeZTM
MimS
Nya-chan Production
Radical_Yue
S.A. Robert
StarTrinity009
TritioAFB

P.S.: Any improvement ideas are welcome ASAP ;>

Looking forward to this! I had a lot of fun judging this last year, and you did a really nice job running it last year.

Anyway, the only improvement I could possibly suggest was giving the judges more nominations outside of the list that we're given, but I think there was good reasoning behind this not being a part.

Thanks *blushes*

Btw, this year will use separate rating sheets for judges, just to avoid temptations :> Of course once they'll finish the ratings, I'll lock their sheets and share the final one with them.

"Judges Choice Awards" Basically an alternative method of determining the winners based on judges rather then popularity vote to the VCA ("Viewers Choice Award") at the org

Vlad
Sakura-Con 2013 - 2016 AMV Coordinator
AX 2012 - 2016 AMV Assistant Manager
Otafest 2012 - 2016 AMV Coordinator
Animethon 10 (2003) - 23 (2016) AMV Coordinator
AWA Atlanta 2011-2016 VAT Programming Head

Added links to the past year's results to the first post. It's fairly well explained in some of those ^^

Interesting. I'll like to nominate my judges now, but I'm waiting for the Frenchs and the Russians (I spend more time with my comrades so I'll wait for them)

Also, in all the editions of the JCAs has been there a draw in the finals? Is there an alternate plan in case we got it and the second voting doesn't change it?

I guess we can vote now? Assuming none of these will opt out (I'll change later if need be), these are my personal picks.

kireblue [Person of great character, and has done a remarkable job with judging for me in the past, taking his position very seriously]
Kosmit [Did a fantastic job with judging last year, and was an excellent judge for me in the past. Plus, he usually has many foriegn AMVs into the mix, which is great!]
Otohiko [Has done a fantastic job in the past, and has judged extremely well for me in the past. Analyzes everything very carefully, and just does a really great job]

I wish I could nominate about 15 people, because I honestly have a list a mile long of people that would do a great job with this. XD Also, I wanted to nominate a person from France as well, but I quickly realized that I don't know any *active* french editors personally. >_>'

The last year I decided the winner. This year I'll probably ask some reliable extra person if that happens ^^
