by "all of our videos", do you mean all 103,722 videos that the org currently has available for download? :uhoh:

I guess that a channel that just has all the winning VCA videos would be a interesting idea though.

heh, good idea, where would a suggestion for this go, in site feedback? but not only vca's, as that would just be once a year up like 20 vids in a day. There should maybe be some kind of criteria for good vids and those get upped, maybe like once a week, up the best vid?

CodeZTM wrote:Another thing that really turns me off threads is when people are self-demotivating in their announcement threads. Stuff like "I know I suck, and this was made in just 39 minutes with WMM, so don't watch it".

BE MORE CONFIDENT! If you're not confident, how can other people be confident in your work?

oh god, i hate those kinds of vids. They're like a warning "if you see anything wrong with this video, don't bother saying so because i already know"

Kosmit wrote:We should totally have a VCA category for "Best AMV Title". The fight for the win would be awesome!

that might be kinda cool...

well, if anything, i think it's half subconscious. IDK if you can really say some titles don't pique ur curiosity more than others.

and people saying they look at anime/song combo more than the title when choosing vids to watch, do you just go through every thread in the announcement forum and look at the sources? If not, how do you pick which threads to look at, usually ones with interesting titles/editors you like/studios you know//like, right?

Well, I usually just go down the line from top to bottom.
I tend to choose ones I'm familiar with and either don't plan on watching (but have a general idea of the story to follow the video) or have already seen. Basically avoiding stuff I REALLY don't want spoiled for me.
As for the music, there are very few genres of music I won't listen to. I'd say the only one I occasionally have trouble with is metal since it tends to give me headaches.
When I'm in my "watch new stuff from whoever" mood, I don't really look at the fine details. Just "is this going to spoil a series for me?" and "will this cause mega-headache?"

That being said, that doesn't mean I'll sit through the full video :P If it's an abomination, even with a combination that is neither spoiler-tastic or ear splittingly awful, I usually go from 00:30 - 1:00 and kill it to never speak of it again :P That is, unless I actually feel the need to speak of it again and leave a comment on the forums lol

But then again, I'm one of those people that will give anything/anyone at least one shot at impressing me :P Hell, I still watch newly released Shinkai videos even though I don't even like Shinkai. I'm weird like that.

no but like, how do you choose which threads to look at, were you saying yes, you really look into every thread from top to bottom?

...NS...you didn't want people to know you were a strudel or nerdy?

...or both?

Yes I look at every thread. I even watch videos from editors that I don't like just to see if they've improved. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while so I never deny them the chance.

BasharOfTheAges wrote:Video names show some form of creativity, I suppose - on the same level as any title really. You want something to be memorable enough that people who don't rename their files can search for it easily if nothing else.

I've never really put much thought into studio names, handles, etc. to be completely honest, if you're not familiar to me, i probably won't look at your announcement thread. Nothing personal, I just don't really watch as many videos as I used to, which is a shame. I'm sure a lot of us are in the same boat. Maybe a "watch X random videos + Star/QC them" thread might liven things up around here...

This. I always like to put some creativity into naming my amvs. I also enjoy seeing creative or witty titles that others made as well.

When using a song that has a particular lyric that stands out, i think that using it as the title might actually be giving a preview of the video itself. Like if the song was "We Found Love" by Rihana and you mash it up with Angel Beats!, I would call the video "FEEL THE HEARBEAT!"
Spoiler :
I'm already making the video as we speak, so don't anyone try and steal that

That being said, how many of you/us make posters for your videos when you make an announcement thread?

I always make a poster...and I tend to spend a bit of time on them as sort of a "here's what you can expect in the video" preview. Now that we actually have streaming, that helps too, but posters are still fun.

I always make posters for the videos that I announce. It usually takes me just a few minutes, but there have been a few that I've worked on for close to an hour.

I agree that a poster is a really nice preview of what to expect in the video.
