AMVs That Inspired You to See the Show?

Postby kaitoujuliet » Thu Dec 19, 2002 11:47 am

I was just thinking that there are quite a few shows/movies I have been inspired to watch after getting a "taste" through an amv. Specifically...

- Pyro Wolf's (Cyber Moon's) "Moonlight Shadow" made me watch Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. I'm not generally into vampires, so I don't know if I would have watched it otherwise, but I enjoyed it!

- Turboneko's "Crossed Swords" made me check out Rose of Versailles, at least the first few episodes.

- And most recently, Kwasek's "A Thousand Miles" made me watch Whisper of the Heart. Wonderful movie!

So, has this ever happened to anyone else? What videos have turned you on to shows you'd never seen before?

Aluminum Studio's "Try" and Fly High Studio's "What Lie's Beneath" showed me Lain, and once I downloaded a few episodes to se what I thought, I knew I just HAD to have the series.

Turned out to be one of my favorites. ^_^

Combination of random AMVs and fan worship made me rent the first VHS of Trigun to check it out, then buy the entire boxset. (To give you some idea, I generally don't buy boxsets in stores. I go online. But, when I saw the Trigun boxset at Best Buy, I said "Fuck it" and bought it then and there so I could watch the series immediately.)

I am in the process of downloading Azumanga Daioh digisubs based entirely off of Turboneko's DDR project video. I've watched eps 1-4 so far, and I find that I'm enjoying it.

Most AMV's I've seen are of anime's I've already seen anyhoo. My friend gave me some Cardcaptor Sakura MVs and after watching them I thought it might actually be worth watching...

...-_- I was wrong.

The thing with most music videos, is that they make the Anime/show seem better or even more epic than they actually are, I've found this mainly in Eva videos...

Most anime's I only start watching through recommendations, or convenience (friend owns it, s'on TV and the such...)

Some Guy With Nothing Better To Do's End Of Eva vid set to "Plowed" by Sponge got me interested in anime in general, and I figured I needed to see Evangelion after seeing it.

So I did, and everything went from there.

Just recently saw Indifferent Production's "The Path of Most Resistance". And now I gotta go out and see Kenshin.

Though I haven't actually gotten to see any of it, I had the same reaction to TurboNeko's DDR video- I'm working on getting Azumanga Daioh so I can watch it.

The DDR vid also got me into the wonderful world of Azumanga Diaoh. I got into Angelic Layer from a music vid but I can't remember which one it was as it was lost in the great harddrive crash of 2002.

Everything that's not on television.

Put it this way, I wouldn't go out and buy it, unless I knew a bit about the anime. And AMVs are great previews. I can normally get a good idea about it, and make my decision based on them. Though I still haven't seen too much, my hopes are high for the future. :D

Off hand I know of only three AMV's that inspired me to see the anime that went with it, the first introducing me to anime as a whole. Although I can't remember the names to them I still recall the first one, which was done with Evangellion and the song "The final Countdown" from the band England (Thanks Rozard on recalling the bands name :P ). That one pretty much started my interest in anime and AMV's as a whole.
As for the other two I can't remember the songs they were done to or the name of the AMV's themselves (I saw them both at AnimeCentral 2002) but one featured Hellsing and the other Read or die. I think thats it.

Hey, that was one of the first AMV's i ever downloaded. It was good, though does anyone know any Eva music vids that are actually really good. I've only seen a few out there, and there isn't anything oustanding.

Actually, i've only downloaded AMV's from series that i'v already seen but, there was a Dragonball z one with 'kryptonite' by Three Doors Down, that actually got me into AMV's in the first place. It was also either part of an AMV or just a Cartoon Network promo, but it had clips of Gundam Wing with Linkin Park's 'Crawling in my skin' which got me into AMV's and back into Gundam wing.
