silly question about qualities

Postby facuu » Thu Sep 08, 2011 11:07 pm

hi everyone, im facu

im new in all this amazing world of amvs, and i decided to give it a try and make one
i was watching a lot of good amvs and everyone had something in common ( the good ones)

the quality of images..

i mean, the quality of the video, of each image of each anime, is wonderful, full vivid colors, and it's like, super hd XD i don't know, i mean, i have downloaded blue rays and they did not have the quality that this videos has

so my question is, how they exactly do it?

im pretty sure they don't download the anime, but i wanted to know if that quality could be possible from a dvd, because, dvds are dn 704 x 396 mostly, and i don't think that is the best, while an hd is 1280 x 720 or an hd 1080 p is 1920 x 1280, that's where i get confused... and i don't want to buy the dvds if then i can't get
that quality.

hope you could understand my question, an example of an amazing quality well, surely you may know but for example: around the world from shinzo, or the famous do you know your anime, or beautiful day from funky kun...

wait for an answer, hope you can help me n.n

Considering you said you were "downloading" the Blu-ray, it's most likely recompressed and apparently not done very well. A non-upscaled Blu-ray would look far superior to the encodes here on the org. With that said, they encode properly at decent bitrates to H264 for HD videos on this site, which gets excellent quality.

yeah it really depends on the anime, some animes just LOOK good! But beyond that, if you are comparing apples to apples (and not anime x to anime y), than yes, it would probably depend on where you get it from. getting it from the actual source is typicaly greater than d/ling a torrent or something. If your really crazy some ppl get the original JAPANESE cut which MAY BE better than the US cut. Not always though I think on an occasion or two (very VERY rare) the US cut may actually be better ie Animatrix. But yeah, the closer you get to the source the better.

Than there are a few 'cleaning' methods. Most noticably on older footage, but still could be used today. I'd rather err towards luck of the draw lol myself, there IS no magic wand you can wave and this s* is HARD :x.

yeah, and well, im also against downloading footage but, for the first amv, just to check if i really like it, i would surely download it, if so, i would probably download the dvd itself, not the mp4 because the recompress is the loss of quality isn't it?
of course we're talking about downloaded things, wich are not allowed , so feel free to avoid the question.

another thing, is there a tutorial for total beginners? i mean, i was reading that tutorials here that are kinda perfect, but there are somethings like the frames and stuff, that i dont understand very well, so ...

another thing, while i was watching amvs, i saw some scenes that were exactly the same in, one and another but really exactly, so it's not possible that they got it each one from a different source, they got the same one, so it's like they have downloaded it? am i right?

well that's all for now, thank you very much for this

Some people do get their sources from multiple places, or download or even rip from other amvs, however that's not promoted here (and most of those are often looked down upon in the community). If you would like nice clean sources you need to get your sources from DVDs or Blurays you purchased then play with filters till it's the quality you want.

In the case of some series older series the episodes may sometimes vary in quality even on the DVDs so that is a possibility too. But if it's a newer series, I doubt that leaps in quality is due to varying quality in the DVD source.

Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides it's probably the best guide you are going to get right now for just about everything pertaining to visual quality.

Well if you are a beginner then my first suggestion is to start out with an amv using only one show if multi-anime sounds too difficult.
