derp + fewd = AWESUMN
I happen to realize yesterday that it's August already, and yet no AWA Dinner plans. Well, problem solved. Cheesecake Factory per usual has no problem taking our money and dealing with our nonsense, in fact they are really excited to see us again. That is unless everyone's sick of good food, sweets and booze all in one place. In that case you must be crazy! I made the usual arrangements:
Thursday Sept 29th, 2011: Yes the Thursday before the con. Come early and party hard!
Dinner ~ 9pm: Cheesecake Factory @ Cumberland Mall, Atlanta, GA (unless the masses rise)
Meet/Greet ~ 8pm: Gather at the "ice" sculpture below the main elevators in the lobby.
Leave for eats! ~ 8:30: A short walk across the street, no big. Most of you already know this.
About the restaurant?
It's friggen cheesecake!! What more do you want to know? Oh, and there's a decent bar there too. Actually it's a good restaurant that serves a variety of foods, mostly the usual pastas, salads, and sandwiches you find at other joints. But the food is always good and the portion are HUGE. My wife and I usually split a plate of food, and as most entrees are on the north side of $10-15 a split plate is a good value. Want more info check out their website: http://locations.thecheesecakefactory.com/ga/atlanta-121.html Also, here's a copy of the menu: http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com/media/menus/TCF_Takeout_Cumberland.pdf Why is this good for us, there is a portion of the restaurant further back from the general populous that will accommodate us well and provides ample room for socializing without distracting the other patrons.
Sounds delicious! How do we get there?
Easy! The restaurant is located at Atlanta's Cumberland Mall, located just a short walk across the street from the convention center. There is a footbridge that actually connects M's parking lot to the convention center, and total trip time of less than 10 mins on foot. I set the time of 9pm so that most everyone can make it, in the case that, for what ever reason, you want to meet us at the restaurant, the reservation is under "AMV" and is set for 9pm. Driving directions are on the website.
Sadly to say there are a few rules:
No Cosplay please - I really can't stress this enough. There haven't been a large number of offenders in the past, but imagine trying to cram 100 people into a restaurant with a dozen or so of them in bulky outfits and extensive personal effects. No exceptions.
Register with enough time to drop your stuff off - This pretty much follows the same theory. Plus the registration line was insane, so set aside enough time to make it all happen. I HIGHLY recommend the "mail my shit" option or what every they call it
Each editor is allowed a maximum of 1 non-editing friend - Basically this rule prevents us from being over run by a bunch of screaming fan girls. If you want special consideration or for some reason have a spare person feel free to pm me in advance. This isn't really ironclad, just basically don't drag all your friends in 5 mins before head. The restaurant wants a good count and the goal is to be social.
Tip at the restaurant please - These folks are working hard to bring us a late but tasty meal. And each year they do a bang-up job! We need to show them our appreciation.
Every editor attending AWA is invited and encouraged to come. It's great place to meet other editors, talk shop and otherwise just derp out with people of similar interests. Plus, it's a lot of fun!!
You guys know the drill, so post away and lets get this list going! Last years list was slim, lets make this one a record!
