The name can be translated as "How to bloom a flower" - and it describes this piece well. Just a story of a young blooming girl. Slice of life / Daily drama.AniDB wrote:* An original project produced as the P.A. Works studio's tenth anniversary work.
The story revolves around 16 year-old Matsumae Ohana, who begins working at a hot spring inn. Like most girls her age, she hopes and dreams of the future.

Re: Hana-Saku Iroha
This is somewhat reductive. The title is a word play that's lost in translation, and could be translated as "The colours of the blooming" (this is pretty much explained on the anime's site).Nya-chan Production wrote:The name can be translated as "How to bloom a flower" - and it describes this piece well. Iroha is the traditional ordering of the japanese syllabary, now overseeded by more modern criteria, and comes from a poem (the Iroha, in fact), which has a peculiar characteristic: it's written by using every traditional syllable of the japanese language and each only one time.
However iroha can also be transliterated as "iro wa/ha", thus obtaining "hana-saku iro wa/ha", where "iro" obviously stands for colour.
The intent of the authors was to use a metaphor with the blooming in the title to represent the maturation of the main character (o-hana, 緒花, "start/beginning/first flower"): just like flowers, originally just buds, change colour upon blooming, ohana too will mature and change her own "colours."
Anyway, really nifty show, would recommend.
