Gaelstrom wrote:This clip is a little hard to follow. You have a lot of effects and it's hard to see the characters and who's saying what, I think it may need some kind of establishing shot. But the part where the parrot creature is getting fried strikes me as way too much happening for such a mellow line of complaining. Right now I feel this clip's a bit too confusing to be amusing, I think this audio would do better with different footage than this personally. Like you could even have two separate sources, use the Digimon creature for deeper audio, then shift to a character from a different source potentially in a building that gets fried, for example off the top of my head, Ed (I've gotta stop using FMA so much -_-), he'd fit that voice, and then have the Digimon character say the children's toy line. It's just difficult to visually latch on to anything that anchors the initial dialogue as it is right now.

There isn't a single effect used in the entire video (not even a crossfade). But I agree that giving the voice of Granpa to the parrot seems off. Granpa seems to bee slightly annoyed, but the parrot is clearly being obliterated. I could cut out granpa's line and just leave Stu's "maybe using fire in a children's toy is a bad idea" line.

Oh and, the fact that you said that this is confusing makes me wonder if you've seen the source. Did you ever watch the Rugrats movie?

Whenever I say effects, I usually include those that are in the source unless I specify otherwise. I knew you didn't add them, but they are still effects and they still were covering the majority of the screen much of the time. And I think you're on to something, cutting out that line would make the clip faster and hit the punchline sooner. Might be worth a shot. I still believe you'd need an establishing shot to make sure the audience sees Graymon. And no, I haven't seen the source, I'm not much of a fan of rugrats sorry to say ^^ But in this case I don't think the source matters at all, the audio works to make it a standalone clip rather effectively.

Actually, this is an afterthought, but I recognized something the other night. One reason all our explosions seem the same is that they're similar lengths, but also lack reactions. This is actually a pretty good setup to use the explosion audio and have a giant explosion instead of the parrot and then as the sound fades, have him say the line. Not sure if you want to try it, but I made a quick version of the audio if you wanted to.

Here's my newest clip, I'd like your impressions:

davidkrein.net/ChobitsProblem.rar

EDIT:

I did another version quickly. What do you guys think? Which do you prefer? Do you like the idea, etc?

davidkrein.net/ChobitsProblemTake2.rar

Unfortunately I'm noticing a major potential problem. It seems like the "It's so fluffy!" isn't easily being heard at all by any of the friends who help me work on this when I showed them a few clips. Every one of them have said "What'd she say?" and that's not a good sign. Is there a clearer audio clip, or perhaps we could make it louder? It's really just unfortunately because she's so throaty with how she says it... based on the fact that they can't hear it from my speakers in a normal room, I think it's safe to say it'll be worse in an auditorium. Does anyone have the DVD and can rip a better quality of it?

I can try and get the DVD and rip the audio...Do all of them need to be changed? I know there's one that I didn't do and if I can rip the audio I'd be more than happy to share so we can correct this problem.

EDIT: While i'm working on the audio rip...would it be funnier to change my Dragon Crisis! It's so fluffy to add the "It's so fluffy I'm going to die!"...or just leave it as it is? I personally think that mixing it up may be a good thing...

I don't think you should extend it, I think the quick "IT'S SO FLUFFY!" is why it's so funny, because it gets cut off. We only have 3 clips and they're mixed up enough as it is. You need at least 3 to make it a running gag, after that we could mix it up, but we don't have any more. The fourth one is the combo clip, so that one works beautifully. I think all of them need increased quality audio. I don't even know if it'll help, but they're some of our more fun quick clips, so we really need people to be able to hear it. I just hope the audio switch fixes it.

Got a rip..and sounds to be a much better quality. I'll swap it out of all my clips and post a reel so we can see if it works. Give me a bit to do it.

EDIT: Okay, the only downside with using the movie audio rather than the trailer is the movie has music underneath the line...I dunno how that's going to play out. I'd try and get rid of it but audio editing is not my thing...I'll post it to see what you think...

You're right, the music is too much in that. I should have thought of this sooner, some of the trailers removed the music.

Can you rip this?

If not, I can do it, but that is without any music and seems to be quite good quality.

Yep. Just let me KeepVid.com it and possibly convert it to something Vegas will recognize. Give me a min and I'll repost.

Edit: You said something before about the number of fluffy clips..would you recommend one or two more? I could probably come up with something...

Nevermind, did it anyway. Already had my site and soundforge open anyway.

I'm out for the weekend, I gotta get to sleep to go to my seminar.

Let me know what you all think of the Chobits clip and if you think it can be better somehow or other, I'll be able to work a bit this weekend and access this board during the nights.

I had already downloaded and coverted and replaced when I saw this, though if my job isn't as good I'll download that...

Works far, far better. Only problem now is the audio difference is a bit jarring, so perhaps normalizing the anime audio and then the whole clip will be worthwhile. If nobody else can work with audio, I'll take care of it later on. That reminds me though, I need to bring soundforge with me... great work though, I think that averts a major problem. For the Sailor Venus clip, that level should be fine because it's all abient noise. Same with Ed in the last clip. The only other clip that could have the same levels problem is the Mitsudomoe one. Was it you who did that one? It may be fine since it's just animal noises from the hampster, can't tell without looking, but out of time for the night.

yup that was me too. I can go ahead and replace the audio just to be on the safe side. I'll try and level out the previous one but if I can't get it right I'll send it your way.
