Though I no longer am associated with the con, I'd say it's a good bet you won't get any confirmation about your submissions before the con. I figure only a limited number of entries will be shown at the contest itself including, of course, the winners. I'd hoped to show a two-hour+ block of entries in one of the video rooms like I did last year, but I wouldn't count on that happening now. You may have to wait until Anna May Belle or someone from the con hopefully posts a list of winners somewhere after the con. Sorry to be so negative, but I felt you should know the situation. Good luck!SammySamaProductions wrote:I uploaded a couple entries to the contest (where it said to upload). Will there be conformation messages going out soon? or will we not know until the finalists are posted as to whether or not our entries were received.
The con has been running since 2003 and is the biggest anime con in Florida with attendance last year over 6,000, so it isn't small in numbers. Unfortunately, I believe the parties currently running it don't care as much for anime and its fandom as I'd like, spending most of their energy on the Chess Match and Fire Show. That's part of the reason I'm no longer working for the con.Deuce Loosely wrote:Technology being what it is, someone should use a smartphone and post the winners here with it.
Is this a smallish convention?
BTW I sent a parody to y'all.

To be fair, winners have not been always posted as they should have in the past, mostly due to other things getting in the way. I hope this won't be the case, but I have my doubts.

How so? I know the guy that designed the code for the MyConsOnline site and I'm sure he'd appreciate any feedback either positive or negative.Ijexis wrote:That uploading process was...weird...

The rules are definitely kind of strange. Though a lot of the wording has been used for years, they edited it a lot to make no mention of specific categories that will be awarded and they included a file type that has not always been accepted in the past (I forget which one). As far as credits are concerned, I'd hope most serious AMV makers would include most of them as part of the video, whether entered when the AMV is submitted or not. AMVs with superfluous subtitles used to be rejected but now they may be accepted. I'm sure the judging will be impeccable, but the rules need to be much more specific, IMO.Ijexis wrote:It's just not the usual way I've gone about uploading stuff to cons. The MyConsOnline site is pretty nifty and the uploading process was nice and straight forward. It's just the rules for the actual contest were not as fleshed out as I was expecting. No indication if credits were allowed as part of the video and I didn't see any indication of being asked for information such as the song, anime, editor name, etc. Maybe I was missing something but you weren't kidding about them not caring much.

I'll be sure to pass on your comments about the site and the upload process to my friend--I'm sure he'll appreciate it.
