This is very sad news, there isn't much I can say, I didn't know him too well or get to talk to him much on here. But despite rarely coming here in the past few years he is definitely someone that stands out in my memory of the org and that's gotta mean something, he will be missed. :(

I just logged in as soon as I heard he died. I recalled him atleast being one of the few that was nice to me, it's sad that he is gone now.

Umm... it's been said before and I can't really add much more to this. But, this is just... unbelievable. I suppose I never kept up with his life enough to know what was going on with it to know that this could have been happening, but I think that's probably the thing that's making it a lot more like some joke; that this just came all of a sudden. It's like, I feel as if he was going to be a permanent accessory to the org. Every forum had to have at least someone like him and really, there's no one that will be plugging that hole now.

Shit man...

I can't fucking believe this... I've never met Rob in person, but over the years I got to know what kind of person he really was. Back when I started posting videos on the org I was on the receiving end of Godix' colourful posts. I took it way to serious at the time, since the concept of trolling and flaming was foreign to me. Hanging out in IRC I started to get to know him a bit more, and under the whole guise of asshattroll was giant teddy bear that many didn't know about. The exchange of banter on subjects of AIDS, mud huts, winamp visualisations and monkeys will be sorely missed as will his presence on the org. I wish his wife all the best and my most sincere condolences.

Rest in peace, big guy.

Some of my favourite moments in talking with him:

00:49] <godix> Hey you, effects whore, I got an after effects question. So why don't I ask my question, you answer, then we both pretend I never ever stooped so low as to ask you for help. Sound good?

[05:24] <decot|what> Isn't your name Robert?
[05:25] <godix> Yes. But that doesn't help. Robert is a very common name. At least here in America. I imagine in SA it's usual, you folks have probably all got names like 'IGotAIDS'

[19:44] <godix> We were talking the other day and decided that what would be great, what would be really really great, is if you did NTB effects to WWII stock footage. Complete with swastikas instead of hexagons. Do it.

[10:37] <godix> You love that I'm the only one who will tell you how shallow and pointless your life is?
[10:38] <07Decoy> Of course, who else can I trust to do it.

[01:19] <godix> And oddly enough, some do take me seriously. It suprises me every time it happens though.
[01:19] * Decoy makes sad faces ALL the time.
[01:19] <emocoy> :(
[01:19] <godix> Is being raped by Ileia really that sad?
[01:19] <emocoy> :(
[01:20] <godix> Be glad she took the razor blades off the giant metal penis first.

You do not know me. I am his father. When we discussed this possibility he wanted me to celebrate his life, not mourn his investigation of the alternatives to life. You are doing this well and helping me to celebrate the 37 years he was here in my life. If you happen to see one of the alternatives to life he is playing at now, maybe make an AMV. If you are right, he might even find a way to let you know.

BTW, Goodbye Cruel Life, among others he did will be playing at the memorial Monday night. I hope the funeral home is ready for this. :)

Post-it, seriously, fuck off. I'd suggest not posting in this topic again, there's no need to be this disrespectful.

Your son was a vital part of this community, and despite his unique style of critique, most veterans of the org understood that reading between the lines, you could find that he really cared about vision and combatting mediocrity. He touched almost everyone (and it was usually a "bad touch!") who stuck around for even a few days, and became a prominent landmark for the majority. For a few of us, he was much more than than. As I have stated earlier in the thread, I was blessed to have spoken to him one on one almost every day for years. And despite his claims of being "a moderate Republican" and mine of being "a moderate Democrat," at the end of these conversations, we would generally agree... and wonder why the hell no one in Congress was having the same discussion.

#amv-review, a group that offers criticism to editors of all abilities, would simply not have been possible or lasted as long without his tireless devotion. And yet he was just as capable of saying, "if the editor enjoyed it, well, fuck criticism." Right now we are going on with our lives by reliving the moments he gave us. With our comments, our tributes, our editing. However, eventually, one day, we will notice that we're out of content, and that he is truly no longer with us. I haven't reached that point, but when I do, I know it will "totally suck balls."

BTW, Goodbye Cruel Life, among others he did will be playing at the memorial Monday night. I hope the funeral home is ready for this. :)

This is...not sure what to say...

When I think of the .Org, Godix was more than a piece of the puzzle, he was the piece that had to be there - in some form or another - and (for better or for worse) he never really dropped the ball.

He was the best tester I've had so far. He got what I was trying to do, offered suggestions for improving it, identified stuff that literally must have been caught because he was going through some special effects frame by frame (To see how it was done? Catch me at screwing up? Doesn't matter, at the end of the day his attention to detail made my video better.) and didn't cut me any slack. I hate being cut slack and Godix did NOT cut anyone slack. It's probably why he and I got along pretty well. A quite unusual thing for the both of us, I daresay.

I guess I'll just leave it at this, which I made a few years ago in honor of his repeated nomination as Most Helpful .Org Member:

Wow... I respected the guy a lot.
Never saw this coming. A big icon in this community has left us. For that I can only hope he will rest in peace.

Also; Yes. Godix for Most Helpful 2010.
