Improve Picture Quality?

is there anything i can use in Vegas or after effects (Vegas Preferably) that will make the video quality seem better? im using 720p source video but it still doesn't look very good. i was hoping to make the lines seem more defined and the colors more outstanding and just outright beautiful haha. ANY tips or tricks would help, thank you ^_^

well, yeah!
1) the entire concept of H264 is to lock-in the Colors and maintain the outlines.

2) Use the Zarx264 encoder for the final encode to MP4 -- it does a fantastic job on AMV's

but most of all, use a LossLess Codec while editing; its name says it all ( nothing lost )

as far as sharpening the video image, I use a Video Cleaning System that is quite simple; really.
its a five step process described in the FAQ's by ErMaC and its been updated by Zarx -- so you know it works!

ok... im kinda new to amv editing and i know most of it but what is H264?

also... how do you Use the Zarx264 encoder for the final encode to MP4?

H264 is a codec, same as divx/xvid, lagarith, utvideo, huffyuv, mjpeg, picvideo, etc... they compress video as opposed to "non-compressed" raw. It's not a process or a means to make your video look better (in most cases, bad compression will make your video look worse). All it does is compress the video, that's it. This also has nothing to do with how an editing program "stores" video files.

When you're editing, we recommend you use a lossless codec like huffyuv, utvideo, or lagarith. These are generally a lot faster to edit with but take up a lot more space on your hard drive (hard drives are cheap though). They also aren't losing the original quality due to the compression processes as opposed to lossy codecs (h264, xvid, divx, mjpeg, picvideo).

.. sorry about that; the way they are selling H-264 is "as if" it
were an Internal Process built-in to the editors made these days!

.. given "that" misunderstanding snowballed into the Lossless codec's
also supporting the H-264 encoded process started by the editor!
