(Discussion) Light Hearted Humourous Rule Changes

Ok some light hearted fun

For those of us who run contests, whats the funniest thing that has happened to prompt a rule change?

For me and Sakura-Con it was due to the 2010 contest.
We received a 5and a half minute long 1080p uncompressed avi. I couldnt help but laugh some poor person spent the time to upload a 33 gb file to the ftp. For 2011 I imposed a 720p 10 gb size limit. This mainly was to save people (myself included) time and bandwidth

For Momocon's AMV Exhibition, someone sent me a video with the new "my little pony" series. I was all ready to send them a messages saying that their video didn't follow the rules, but then I realized that I had forgot to add in a rule saying that you actually had to use anime. Since there weren't any prizes involved, I decided not to change the rules or ultimately disqualify the video.

I chose to specify Japanese origin because it can too easily be argued that in Japanese "anime" means any form of animation

I've had a few other the years for Youmacon. Year 1, one of my friends entered the contest with a wmv video. At the time I was allowing just about any source because I picked up the contest from someone else who didn't know what they were doing. The video had variable frame rates which screwed up my ability to keep sync when I converted the video to mpeg2 in order to play it using my netstream card. The next year I banned WMV and a few other file types for this reason.

For Youma 2009, I got a mail in entry a few days before the deadline that had the video on a thumb drive. The rules stated that only CDs and DVDs would be accepted as media for submitting mail-ins. I decided to allow the entry through anyway simply because of the cost of thumb drives compared to CDs and DVDs. The next year I made sure to put in an exception for thumb drives, also stating that we keep em if we get them. (I also made it a point to add it to ACEN's rules as well the next year just in case)

LOL Yeah I got a thumb drive last year.
I have been contemplating putting together guidelines for mailing. I get more than 1 person mailing in disks, no protection for the disks like a jewel case, in a normal, non bubble manila envelope, or people who send in 3 videos, all under 1 gb each, each on its own dvd

I've never had issues with disks being sent in un-protected. Forcing entrants to send in a printed form helps to protect the disks. However I've had plenty of disks sent in without protection. I've always had the stance that if I can't read your file on the disk or if the disk breaks in shipping that the entrant will have to re-submit. I've never had an issue with it before, hence there hasn't been a specific rule for it, but I'd imagine entrants would understand the risks of sending in via mail and not properly protecting their media.
