The way I remember it, we 8 year olds didn't care. We used to play our Game Boys and ask for help from each other after school or in the bus.
Pretty sure anyone who used the calculator 10 years ago were teenagers or adults.

Calculators in Gen 1 didn't help too much, it was just too broken...
Anyway, I gotta admit that I can enjoy it more now that I know how some things work than I did 12 or so years ago when I was a kid and just wanted to have fun. It might not be as special anymore (anybody remembers the "HOLY SH-" reaction when witnessing the first evolution?), but I think I can appreciate the subtleties more now.

I remember when in 1st grade I wanted to be Charizard for halloween but,
not knowing the difference, my mom gets me a digimon costume instead <.<

Just something I wanted to throw out there :P
